JUNE'S OBITUARY

June (Colburn) Rector - passed away on December 19 at the age of 90 at East
Cumberland Lodge in Pugwash. Born in Riverview, NS, she was the daughter of
the late Duncan and Thelma (Fraser) Colborn and wife of the late Newton "Newt"
Rector. Beloved mother of Randy (Bonnie Dargavel) and Dana (Susan), cherished
grandmother of Nicholas (Laura Williams), Stacey (Jonathan Koteles), and Megan
(Kyle Carpenter), and great-grandmother to Thomas and Gregory Koteles, June
lived her whole life in the Oxford area, and attended hairdressing school in
Moncton before managing the books at Newt's Shell. June learned to drive in
her father's creamery truck, and was one of the first women in Oxford to
obtain a driver's license. June was actively involved in religious life, as a
member of the UCW and teaching Sunday School at Trinity United Church, and
later serving as the organist at Oxford Baptist Church where she played almost
every Sunday for more than two decades. With her late husband of over 55
years (Newton), June traveled all over Cumberland County to gospel music
events, and played the organ for the Oxford Men's Club of which Newt was also
a member. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and baking, and was known for her
Christmas shortbreads which she delivered all over town. A loving and kind
mother and grandmother, June was always proud and supportive of her two sons.
Family get-togethers were highly valued, and she put tremendous effort into
preparing favorite meals and special birthday cakes. Relationships with
friends and extended family were important to her, and she cherished these
connections. June especially loved her three grandchildren, who were her
pride and joy. She truly loved life, and will be missed for her thoughtful
and caring manner and good sense of humor. The family would like to thank the
staff at East Cumberland Lodge for their attentive care. Visitation will be
from 1-3 p.m., followed by funeral service at 3 p.m. Saturday, January 11,
2020, all in MacDiarmid's Funeral Home & Crematorium, 5075 Main Street, Oxford
(902-447-2930). Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia
or to a charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent to the family by
