DOVER -- Philip J. Plourde, of Dover, N.H., was born in New Brunswick, Canada,
on March 16, 1935, son of Rudolphe Plourde and Claire LaPointe Plourde.
Philip was born the oldest of a family of 12 children in New Brunswick,
Canada, where his father owned and operated a flour mill. It was at that time
a very decent way of earning a living when you managed to get paid for your
work. Many times people came to the mill and gave their extra flour to pay for
the work done; there was no money exchanged for the work. Phil, being the
oldest boy of the family, was called upon to help his father at the mill and
soon found no future for him in that venture.
He decided that the nest was getting crowded and he had to leave in order to
earn a better living for himself. He was about 20 when one of his relatives
from Massachusetts cosigned him across the borders to a much brighter future.
He left behind his family of six brothers, (Paul, Rudolphe, Claude, Gilles,
Norman (deceased) and Renald (deceased); and sisters, Florence, Claudette,
Jeannine, Cecile, and Gisele and bravely headed south to work at odd jobs in
factories and saved most of his earnings as he went. He had high priorities
and never deterred from his ambitions. Phil was not a wasteful spender, and
saved all of his possessions by work, work, and work!
He later joined the military and spent six years in the service. Although he
never really liked the service, he certainly honed his discipline in managing
his life and assets. Therefore, after serving his country of adoption, he went
to work as a mechanic for Hyster, a forklift company, where he worked for 40
years.
He also went to trade school and learned a new trade. What started out as a
hobby soon became an obsession. He learned how to fix watches and clocks and
go into collecting them and fixing them and soon that hobby became work. He
was a member of the prestigious American Watch Maker and Clockmakers Institute
Inc. and earned some prestigious awards and recognitions from the institute,
who saw in Phil an honest member and a hard working man, devoted to his
passion.
After serving in the military, Phil married and the couple had a daughter,
Michele, who lives in Massachusetts. After the marriage failed, Phil became an
avid traveler and actually traveled twice around the world and **eventually
met up with Doris, who became his traveling companion**. They traveled to
**Aruba** for vacations and on a yearly basis for close to 20 years. He also
spent time in Canada, visiting with his family on many occasions, and kept in
touch with his brothers and sisters.
Phil was a very proud man, ambitious, and managed his life accordingly. He
dressed well and managed his belongings well. He owned good looking cars and
cared for them. Today he is survived by four brothers, five sisters, a
daughter and countless friends. His death was premature, as he was in
excellent shape not long ago, but operations took the best of him, quickly. He
passed away on July 30, 2009, at the Manchester Veteran Hospital. He was 74
years old.
May He Rest In Peace!
