Elizabeth A. Elliott

'Betty'

1934 - 2020

   Elliott, Elizabeth A. 'Betty' - Age 85, of Middle Sackville passed away on
Saturday, March 7, 2020 at the Cobequid Community Health Centre, Lower
Sackville. Born in Economy Point, she was a daughter of the late Penfield and
Reta V. (Smith) Priest. What can we say that can adequately capture the
essence of our funny, feisty, irreverent, loving mother? Being born during the
depression instilled in her resilience, gratitude and a love of life and
family. After raising her children and divorcing, she worked in a variety of
positions until she found the perfect fit as a home care worker where her
compassion, common sense and superb cleaning skills were all utilized. Deeply
involved in her family, she was a devoted daughter, mother, wife, grandmother
and aunt - she was intuitive and was always able to provide what we needed.
>From a wise, non-judgmental, listening ear to making amazing deep fried
donuts. She was friend of Bill W and was both helped herself and mentored so
many people over the last 40years. Her sense of fun was infectious and she
loved to attend country dances with her sister, Lois and could do a mean
polka. She had a great time selling emu cream over the last dozenyears and
even had her own business cards. Mom was a glass half-full person and strove
to be positive in even the hardest of times. She was a powerful force for good
- you never had cause to doubt her love for you. Her enjoyment of Bingo was
legendary and she never passed up a chance to browse in a shoe store or go on
a road trip. Those who loved her will always miss her but also be filled with
gratitude for the loving, nurturing example she will always be. She is
survived by a daughter, Donna, Halifax; a son, Scott, Middle Sackville; a
granddaughter, Emma, Dartmouth; brother in law, Hedley Ripley, Clearwater, BC;
several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a
sister, Lois Ripley; brother, Percy Priest; half-brother, Harvey McWhirter;
niece, Teresa Reid; nephew, Donnie Priest. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m.
on Monday [March 16, 2020] in St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, 954 Old
Sackville Road, Lower Sackville, Rev. Ruby Carter officiating. Reception to
follow in the church hall. Interment will be held in the Economy Cemetery at a
later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bide Awhile
Animal Shelter, Dartmouth.
