SCHINZEL, Phyllis Mae

Our mom, Phyllis Mae (nee Salter) Schinzel passed away peacefully at the
Empress Retirement Home, Kanata, Ontario on May 8, 2017 in her 94th year. We
are saddened to have lost such a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-
grandmother, sister and friend. Born in Westville, Nova Scotia. She was the
daughter of Wilfred and Irene (nee Skerry) Salter, Union Centre, Pictou
County, Nova Scotia - the 3rd eldest of 14 children. She was predeceased by
her husband Robert "Bob" Schinzel in 1998. She was proud of her Nova Scotia
roots and of her Military Service from 1939-1945. She had been employed by
R.L. Crane Ltd. And later at the Queensway Carleton Hospital. She is survived
by her 3 sons, Wayne (Karen), Garry (Pat) and Kelvin (Lori); grandchildren
Cody, Jennifer (Manuel Mizzi), Ashley (Patrick Mullin), Kelly (Matt Guild),
Brittney (Steve Hember); daughter- in-law Debbie Schinzel and great-
granddaughters Fiona and Blaire Mullin. Also survived by brothers, Ron (Myrna)
Union Centre, Nova Scotia, Garnett (Bonnie) Sussex, New Brunswick, Henry
(Joanne) Riverton, Nova Scotia; sisters Violet Hughes (Peter Dawson)
Westville, Nova Scotia and Helen Robinson (John) Scotsburn, Nova Scotia and
brother-in law Lloyd Hughes, New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. Predeceased by sisters
Doris, Treva, Rose, Hazel and Joyce and brothers Charles "Bud" Vernon and
Allison. With respecting her wishes, a private family visitation will be held
at Tubman Funeral Homes Garden Chapel with interment to follow at Highland
Park Cemetery, Carp, Ontario. A celebration of life will be held at a later
date in Pictou County, Nova Scotia. Special thanks to all nurses and staff at
the Empress Retirement Home in Kanata for providing excellent care in her
final years. Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer

Obituary of Vernon Salter

Vernon Clair Salter, age 82, Salter Road, Union Centre, passed away on
Saturday, October 24, 2015 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.

  

Born in Union Centre, Vernon was the son of the late Wilfred and Irene
(Skerry) Salter.

  

Vernon spent his life, home on the farm in Union Centre. Eighteen years ago,
he purchased a mini home and was very comfortable there with his dogs. He
worked many years with the Dept. of Highways and retired from there in 1994.
He was always "at home and available" to the many wants of a large family.
Vernon was a loving, dedicated Uncle to his many nieces and nephews and
enjoyed their visits. Due to failing health, he became a master at "Word-Find"
and jigsaw puzzles. The loving care of his care workers, Brenda and Joy,
enabled Vernon to stay in his own home, as he wanted.

  

Vernon is survived by 3 sisters, Phyllis Schinzel, Ottawa; Violet
Hughes(Lloyd), New Glasgow; Helen Robinson(Johnny), Scotsburn and 3 brothers,
Ron(Myrna), Union Centre; Garnett(Bonnie), Sussex, NB; Henry(Joanie),
Riverton; brother-in-law, Murray Mann, Salem; sister-in-law Isabel Salter,
Westville and many nieces and nephews.

  

He was predeceased by his sisters Treva Gordon, Joyce Mann, Hazel Salter, Rose
Lenehan, Doris Legge, and brothers Bud and Allison.

  

Vernon rested at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Tuesday,
October 27. His funeral service was held 2 o'clock, Wednesday, October 29,
from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with the Rev. Bonnie Wynn officiating.
Cremation followed. Interment was in Forest Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Valley.
Donations in memory of Vernon may be made to the Salem Presbyterian Church or
the S.P.C.A.

Obituary of Allison Salter

Allison Irwin "Allie" Salter, age 79 of Westville passed away Friday January
23 surrounded by family in the Aberdeen Hospital.

  

He was born in Union Centre, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Irene
(Skerry) Salter.

  

Allie was a mechanic and a labourer with Local 615 working on several jobs
before retirement. Some of his favorite jobs were the Highland Square Mall and
the King Street Warehouse. He was awarded the Gold Hard Hat for an accident he
was involved in at Trenton School. Allie is probably best known as the guy
from the Westville Road with the axes and teapots. He loved stocking up his
white van with his treasures and going down to the Westville Road to talk with
anyone and everyone who would stop to chat. Allie enjoyed a good game of cards
and often had mysterious ways of winning. He spent a lot of years camping at
Harbour Lights Campground and enjoyed playing horseshoes and painting lawn
ornaments. Allie loved to talk to everyone and loved to tease.

  

Allie will be sadly missed by his wife Isabel(Deagle); children, Arlene
Johnstone, (Barry) Westville; Gordon Salter (George), Toronto; Theresa Dooley,
Westville; Eric Salter (Karen), Mission, B.C; Mark Salter (Cherie), Westville;
10 grandkids and 10 great grandkids. He is also survived by 3 sisters Phyllis
Schinzel(Ottawa); Helen Robinson(Johnny) ; Violet Hughes(Lloyd) and 4
brothers, Vernon Salter, Ronnie Salter(Myrna), Garnett Salter (Bonnie), Henry
Salter (Joanie).

  

He was predeceased by his sisters Treva Gordon, Joyce Mann, Hazel Salter, Rose
Lenehan, Doris Legge, and a brother Bud Salter.

  

Allie rested at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville w His funeral service was held
11 am Tuesday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with the Rev. Bonny Wynn
officiating. Family flowers only, donations in his memory may be made to the
Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
