OBITUARY - Mrs. Nelson Hoben

The funeral of Anne Kerr, beloved wife of Nelson hoben, of Fox River, was held
from Holy Trinity Church, Fox River, Sunday, December 1st at 2 p.m., Rev.
George Hatton conducting the service.

Mrs. Hoben was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Pettis) Kerr, and
lived her entire life in Fox River. Her girlhood and the greater part of her
married life was spent on the old homestead which was one of the first posts
granted to her grandfather, the late Colonel Kerr and his wife, Caroline
Gesner of Cornwallis. She was the grand niece of Dr. Abraham Gesner, noted for
his discovery of Kerosene Oil, and a direct heir to the famous Anneka Jans
estate in Manhattan, New York, which property was taken by the State when her
Empire Loyalist forebearers came to this country.

Anne, as she was called by all her friends, will be greatly missed by
evertone. Her genial, loveable disposition endeared her to the hearts of all
around her both young and old. Her home was always a bright spot in the
community, full of music and merry times made by her family, but with it all
she had more than her share of sorrow, being called upon to part with seven of
her eight beloved children, Darrell, Donald, Levi, Mary, Barbara, Joseph and
James. Three of these children made the supreme sacrifice for their country;
Donald and Levi in World War One and James, perhaps the hardest blow of all,
who was lost on the date of his parents fiftieth wedding anniversary in the
disaster of the S.S. "Western Head" in World War II. This sorrow she bore with
unfailing courage and without complaint. She was a devoted member of the
Church of England and was interested in all church and community activities.

Surviving are her husband and one daughter, Jean (Mrs. Wilson) who were with
her and lovingly cared for her during her last ilness. Also **two
grandchildren, James Hoben Wilson and Robert Darrell Wilson residing in the
U.S.A.** who served in World War II.

The pallbearers were: John Winters, Howard Wheaton, Judson Hatfield and Harley
Graham. Interment was in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Fox River.

Note: Marriage was 13 Jun 1892 - SS Western Head was sunk 28 May 1942 -
perhaps by the time the parents learned of son, James Robert's death, it was
their 50th Wedding Anniversary?

I believe his mother to be Jean Hoben (1900 Fox River - 1957 Kentville); his
father to be David James Wilson, a sawyer by trade. I have no other info on
the father other than the family were living in Aberdeen, Washington in 1934.

Jean apparently brought her 2 sons back home to Fox River for a visit in 1925
and had both baptized 22 Sep 1925.

Blair is in Wisconsin, U.S.A.

Robert Darrell Wilson must be the son with two children by deduction.
