He was the son of Norman Friscoe Rankin and Emma Mae Knowlton.

WOLFEBORO -- Leslie C. Rankin, 82, of South Main Street, died April 17, 2011,
surrounded by family. He was born on June 30, 1928, in Boston, to Norman F.
and E. Mae (Knowlton) Rankin. He was a member of Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of
America and the Order of DeMolay. He graduated from Everett High School in
1946. Mr. Rankin served in the U.S. Navy.  
He worked as a mail clerk and RFD carrier for the Wolfeboro Post Office for 19
years. He later became the manager of the Fred E. Varney Company, which he
eventually bought. Mr. Rankin served on the Wolfeboro Planning Board and as a
member of the boards of directors for Kingswood Bank and Trust and Huggins
Hospital as well as on the vestry of All Saints Episcopal Church. He was also
the original developer of Abenaukee Estates in Wolfeboro. He was an avid
golfer and belonged to Kingswood Golf Club and Tomoka Oaks Golf Club in Ormond
Beach, Fla., where he and his wife spent many winters.  
Family includes his wife of 59 years, Patricia (Varney) Rankin; daughters
Bonnie Lord, Tracey Richardson and Kathleen Rankin, all of Wolfeboro; eight
grandchildren; sister Barbara Kreiensieck of Middleton; and brother James
Rankin of Wolfeboro; nieces and nephews.  
SERVICES: There will be no calling hours. A celebration of his life is
Saturday at 2 p.m. in All Saints Episcopal Church, South Main Street,
Wolfeboro.
