Morris Canning 1923-2012

It is with deep sadness that we must announce the passing of Morris R.
Canning, age 89, of Amherst.  Morris passed away peacefully at the Cumberland
Regional Health Care Centre on Saturday, October 13, 2012.  Born in Parrsboro,
NS, he was a **son of the late Rupert and Jessie (Morris) Canning**. In his
younger years he worked in the woods, then in Moncton for several years.  He
later moved to Springhill where he was a school caretaker for 13 years.  He
loved and was loved by his family.  He was survived by daughters, Sharon
Canning, Amherst, Judith (Jerry) Myers, Lake Echo, NS, Deborah (Troy) Shea,
Springhill and **_Shelley (Laurie) Heap, River Hebert_** ; **their mother Jean
Varner, Amherst** ; 4 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; brothers Bruce
(Diane), Pembroke, ON, Lewis (Bertha), Moncton; sisters Audrey (Robert) Mayne,
Pembroke, ON, Doris Walton, Amherst, several nieces and nephews. He was
predeceased by sisters Emma Fulton, Mary Fortune; brother Cyril and infant
brother Darrell. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral
Home, 70 Church St, Amherst, (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take
place on Tuesday from 6 to 9 pm.  The funeral service will take place at the
funeral home on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at 3 pm.  Burial will follow in
the Mapleton Cemetery, Springhill. Those wishing to make a donation in Morris'
memory may do so to the LA Animal Shelter or the charity of your choice.

***brothers, Jimmy (Patsy) Heap _both_ of River Hebert*** There appears to be
a missing brother Gina's obit.; possibly Laurie (Patsy) Heap. Also no mention
of 2 sisters.

Mabel Christina Heap

Born In: Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

Passed in: Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

Mabel Christina Heap of Amherst and formerly of Joggins and River Hebert
passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Gables Lodge, Amherst with her
family by her side.

Born in Toronto, ON in 1917, she was a daughter of the late Simon and Julia
(Burbine) Fowler.

Mabel and her husband Jack owned and operated a general store in Joggins for
20 years and later she worked for Oxford Frozen Foods. She was a member of the
Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #4, Joggins and New Horizons
Club. Mabel was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church in
Joggins and the CWL and attended St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, River
Hebert in her later years.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mabel is survived by three daughters Gena (Gerald) Locke and **Cathy Shewfelt
both of Amherst and Millie Howson of Mississauga, ON; two sons Jimmy (Patsy)
and Laurie (Shelley) both of River Hebert** ; several grandchildren, great
grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Jack; one sister
Frances Latta and one brother Herbie and granddaughter, Tracy.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 21, 2009 from 2:00-4:00 and
7:00-9:00 p.m. with parish prayers at 8:00 p.m. in Campbell's Funeral Home, 98
Church St., Amherst (667-9906) Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at
1:00 p.m. from St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, River Hebert with Father
David MacDonald officiating.

Interment will take place in the Ragged Reef Cemetery.

Memorial donations in Mabel's memory may be made to St. Paul's Roman Catholic
Church, River Hebert or the charity of your choice.

Gena M. Locke

It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Gena Marie Locke,
age 81, of Amherst. Gena passed away peacefully with her husband by her side
at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Wednesday, April 1, 2020.

  

Born in River Hebert, NS, she was a daughter of the late Jack and Mabel
(Fowler) Heap.

  

She worked for years in and around Toronto as a School Board Supervisor.

  

She will be dearly missed by her loving husband Gerald, Amherst; children,
John Dujay, Toronto, ON; Jo Hanna Skuce, Toronto, ON; brothers, Jimmy (Patsy)
Heap both of River Hebert; three grandsons,many nieces and nephews.

  

Arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church
St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). Cremation has taken place. There will be no
service at this time.

  

Those wishing to make a donation in Gena's name may do so to the charity of
your choice.
