Vernon M. Mitchell (November 13, 1924 - January 25, 2014) Mitchell, Vernon
Mayhew - Oxford, age 89, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2014 in
Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst. Born November 13, 1924, in
Springhill, he was a son of the late Mayhew and Beatrice Mitchell. Left with
fond and loving memories are his wife, Jean (McLellan); daughters, Alison
(Rick) Draper, Oxford; Meredith (Leslie) Park, Oxford; and son, Andrew (Julie)
and their daughters, Dianna and Addison, Little River; Jean's family, son,
Adair (Kim) McLellan, River Phillip; daughter, Donna Rippey, Halifax; and son,
Ben (Heather) McLellan, Maitland. Vern and his late wife Rita owned and
operated West Acre Farm in Little River for 36 years during which time he also
was employed for nine years as Superintendent of Highways. An active member in
his community, he served as Past President of the Oxford Legion Branch No. 36,
Past President of the Oxford Kiwanis Club, Past President of the Oxford
Curling Club, Charter member of the Oxford and Area Lions Club and elected
Cumberland County Councillor. After retiring, he continued his commitment to
local business and agriculture; he was elected to the Board of Directors of
Co-op Atlantic, serving as Director and Vice President. Vern was a member of
both the Oxford and Little River Baptist Churches. He was recently awarded his
50 Year Jewel as a member of the Masonic Lodge. A World War II veteran, in his
later years he often shared stories of his military service. A member of the
North Shore New Brunswick Regiment, his company landed on Juno Beach in the D
Day invasion of Normandy, June 6, 1944. He was wounded in action in July, sent
back to England for recuperation and 2 months later rejoined his regiment in
Holland. He loved the beach and many of his favourite times were spent at the
cottage at Linden with family and friends. Vern is survived by his brothers,
Kensel, Surrey, BC; Arthur, Amherst; and Emerson, Oxford; sister, Beatrice
Hughes, Amherst. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, G. Rita (Van
Buskirk), brother, Aubrey and sister, Maisie. Visitation will be Tuesday,
January 28 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at MacDiarmid's Funeral Home, 5075 Main St,
Oxford (447-2930). Funeral will be held Wednesday, January, 29 at 2 p.m. in
Oxford Baptist Church, with Rev. Chris Greer officiating. Internment will take
place in the spring at Birch Grove Cemetery, Little River. Family flowers
only, memorial donations may be made to charity of choice. The family wishes
to extend a special thank you the staff of VON Cumberland District, Moncton
City Hospital and Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre for their care and
support, allowing Vern to remain in the comfort of his home until his day of

Hughes, David Alexander - 87, Amherst, passed away, Wednesday, September 17,
at Dr. Georges L. Dumont University Hospital Center, Moncton. Born in County
Down in Northern Ireland, he was a son of the late David and Margaret (Bell)
Hughes. Alex emigrated to Canada in 1957 and was proud to be a Canadian by
choice. He enjoyed gardening and the loved being in the company of his family.
Alex is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former **Beatrice Mitchell** ;
son, David (Joanne), Northern Ireland; daughter, Patricia (David) Warren,
Moncton; grandchildren, Robert and Bailey Hughes, Northern Ireland. He was
predeceased by brother, Robert and sister, Margaret. Following Alex's wishes
there will be a time of visiting and remembrance from 2-4 p.m. Sunday,
September 21 in MacDiarmid's Funeral Home, 5075 Main Street, Oxford

MITCHELL, G. Rita - 74, Oxford, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2003, in
Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Nappan, Cumberland Co. Born in
Brockton, Mass., she was the eldest daughter of the late Herbert and Olive
Annie (Chase) VanBuskirk. With her husband Vernon she owned and operated West
Acre Farm Ltd. for over 30 years. She was active in the farm community
throughout her life and held directorships on various boards including the
Nova Scotia Egg and Pullet Producers Marketing Board, Canadian Egg and Pullet
Producers Council (CEPPC), Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture and served on
the Nova Scotia Farm Loan Board. She was a member and former deacon of Oxford
United Baptist Church. She was past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of Royal
Canadian Legion, Branch 36, Oxford and of the Oxford Ladies Curling Club. She
was an active community volunteer. She is survived by her husband of 56 years,
Vernon; daughters, Alison (Rick) Draper, Stillwater Lake; Meredith (Paul)
Lowe, Oxford; son, Andrew (Julie), Oxford; sisters, Marguerite (Ivan) MacPhee,
Lower Sackville; Nancy (James) Fogarty, Pembroke, Ont. Visitation will be 2-4,
7-9 p.m. today in Allen's Funeral Home, 60 Water St., Oxford. Funeral service
will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, in Oxford United Baptist Church, Rev.
Kevin Smith officiating. Burial will take place in Birch Grove Cemetery,
Little River. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Oxford

Emerson R. Mitchell

September 03, 1943 - April 16, 2015

  

Mitchell, Emerson R. - 71, Oxford passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015. Born
in Springhill, he was a son of the late Mayhew and Beatrice (Sterling)
Mitchell. Emerson served in the Canadian Air Force and at one time was
stationed in Gimli, Manitoba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He later worked
in the aircraft industry first with Fleet in Ontario and later with Enheat and
IMP. Emerson enjoyed hunting and fishing especially along the River Philip. He
is survived by daughter, Debbie J. Mitchell, Ontario; sons, Carl R. Mitchell,
Wil liamsdale; Chris Mitchell, Amherst; granddaughters, Megan, Cairo, and
Aurelia; sister, Beatrice Hughes, Moncton, NB; brother, Kensil Mitchell,
Surrey, BC; several nieces and nephews. He was preceased by, sister, Maisie;
brothers, Aubrey, Vernon, and Arthur. There will be a time of visiting from
2-4 p.m. followed immediately by a brief service of remembrance, Tuesday,
April 21 in MacDiarmid's Funeral Home, 5075 Main Street, Oxford
(902-447-2930). Donations may be made to a charity of choice. Private

Randy Mitchell

November 14, 1964 - May 14, 2020

  

RANDY'S OBITUARY

Mitchell, Carl Randall "Randy" - 55, Williamsdale, passed away May 14, 2020.
Born in Amherst, he was a son of Maxine (Chris) Walker and the late Emmerson
Mitchell. Randy served with the Royal Canadian Air Force after high school and
eventually returned home and settled in Williamsdale. He love hunting and
fishing and generally being outdoors. Randy developed a passion for
motorcycles, especially Harley Davidsons, which he enjoyed riding with his
friends locally and many trips all over North America. Survived by daughter,
Megan Mitchell; sister, Debbie Mitchell; half brother, Chris Mitchell;
stepsister, Jean (Matthew) Cormier; stepbrother, Steven (Diana) Walker; uncles
and aunts; nieces and nephews and many cousins. Arrangements are in the care
of MacDiarmid's Funeral Home and Crematorium, Oxford (902-447-2930). A family
graveside service will be held at a later date in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
