Fire of unknown origin overnight Friday destroyed the workshop, stock
and equipment at J. SKIDMORE Enterprises, Chase Road, Mount Pleasant.
Damage is estimated at about $100,000.

Died - Marion Irene BIRD, 92, Amherst, formerly of West Leicester,
August 7 in Highland View Regional Hospital.
Died - Rolland Benjiman THOMPSON, 69, Bible Hill, August 6 in Colchester
County Hospital. He was born in Little River.

Residents of Wallace and surrounding area are fighting to have the
Livingstone Bridge either repaired or replaced and have drawn up a
petition to be presented to Highways Minister A. Garnet BROWN.

During a special meeting of the Oxford Town Council on August 15, Mayor
Donald SWEETE announced his resignation.

The following items were discussed at a special meeting of the Oxford
Town Council on August 8.
- A tax agreement with the Oxford Foundry and Machine Co. Ltd., which is
to be further discussed.
- Water funding which is to be further looked into and discussed;
- A building permit for Cyril MITCHELL to construct a drive-in
restaurant.
- A decision to accept the offer to purchase the street land for a
roadway from Charles BLACK for $1;
- Terry LAURETTE of Amherst to be appointed Special Constable for the
purpose of warrants and tax collection, under the supervision of Sol.
Raeburn MCCUNN, to be paid on a commission basis.

Died - Mrs. Ola B. MITCHELL, 72, Linden, recently.
Died - Charles Leo FEELEY, 62, Westchester, August 11 in North
Cumberland Memorial Hospital, Pugwash.
Died - Aague HOLLUND, 86, West Pugwash, August 6 in North Cumberland
Memorial Hospital.

The home at Roslin, owned by Miss Lena STEWART has been purchased and
moved to Hansford by William EMBREE, Jr.

One of Oxford's long-time landmarks is no more. On August 2, the tall
brick chimney of the former Oxford Woollen Mills was torn down.

Died at Amherst on July 25, Mrs. Mabel I. (Edgar) PETTIGREW, 90, of
North Greenville.

Thursday, August 14, 1952

The Frankcliffe, a Canadian Great lakes boat, is loading peeled pulpwood
at Pugwash for the American market.

Stationed at Pugwash since 1949, Constable A. R. BRYANT of the RCMP has
been transferred to Parrsboro. He will be succeeded by Constable DUNCAN
of Yarmouth.

Died at Springhill on August 5, Arthur ARENBURG, 70, of Westchester
Station.
Died at Little River recently, Eben Lugher WOODBURY, age 70, formerly of
Middleboro.

Oxford's popular restaurant, The White Lantern, operated by Mr. and Mrs.
Charles CASSFORD since 1934, has been purchased by Wilfred and Lauder
LESLIE.

Died at Londonderry on August 3, Alonzo HOLLIS, resident of Westchester,
age 56.
Died at North Wallace on July 21, Fred Edmund HARRISON, age 61.
Died at Glenville recently, Mrs. Joanna DARRAGH of Linden.

Thursday, August 11, 1932
Miss Marjorie HORTON, 17-year-old daughter of Mr. R.E. HORTON and the
late Mrs. Horton, Springhill, met instant death in an airplane crash at
North Wallace Point on August 7. Thomas CARR, pilot, suffered a
fractured jaw and burns.

Farm products are low in price. One Mansfield farmer sold a nice hog
last week for seven cents a pound.

Harry BLACK is building a home on Little River Road.

Died at Collingwood on August 8, Clifford SHERMAN, age 69.
