Fraserville April 3 -- One of the well known residents of Parrsboro
Shore passed away peacefully at his home in Fraserville in the person
of Josiah Crossman, at the age of 78 years. Although in poor health
for the past year his friends maintained the hope that springtime
would give renewed health and strength, but God willed otherwise and
early on Monday March 29th. he passed into the Great Beyond.
The funeral was held on the Wednesday following and was conducted by
Rev. Mr. Rockingham, assisted by the Rev F. W. Porter, the latter
being a life long friend of the departed. Mr. Porter gave a brief
tribute to the life of Mr. Crossman since their acquaintance,
beginning in young manhood and spoke very feelingly to the mourning
ones. The hymns sung were "He Knows the Way" and "Face to Face".
In closing Rev. Mr. Rockingham sang "By Way of the Cross". After the
service at the church the remains were conveyed to the cemetery. In
spite of conditions of the road a large crowd gathered at the church
and also the grave to pay their last tribute to one who was so well
known among them.
He leaves to mourn a widow, formerly Miss Rosmond Rector,
four daughters:
Mrs. Sam T Crossman,
Mrs. Jos. Robinson of Fraserville,
Mrs. David McCleod, Glenmont, Kings County and
Mrs. Robert Spicer, Apple River;
three sons:
Wesley in the United States,
Edward and
Veaton, Fraserville, also,
three sisters:
Mrs. James Rector, Moncton;
Mrs. John Fitzgerald, Parrsboro and
Mrs. Wm. Knowlton, Fraserville.
With the exception of Mrs. McCleod and one son Wesley, the remainder
of the family were all present at his funeral. Mrs. Robinson arrived
home in time to be with her father during his last days. He was a kind
husband and affectionate father, who will be greatly missed not only
by his loved ones, but by a host of friends.
The pall bearers were Messrs. Louis Crossman. Emery Allen, Otto
Crossman and Ernest Fraser.
Mr. Crossman will be remembered throughout the county by many
travellers on the Shore route as he kept the only Hotel between Port
Greville and Advocate. Of a jovial disposition and generous heart he
won a host of friends.
