Obit: STEVENSON, Robert Louis

STEVENSON, Robert Louis - 87, Amherst, passed away July 12, 2002, in Moncton City Hospital, as a result of a car accident. He was born on April 26, 1915 and spent his childhood in New Glasgow. Robert was the son of the late Dr. Arthur Burdette and Albert Jean (Bradshaw) Stevenson. He was predeceased by brother, Melville Stevenson. He attended Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown and Maritime College of Pharmacy. He was a pharmacist all his life, starting at Johnson and Johnson pharmacy in Charlottetown as a delivery boy. From his experience he decided to make this his career. He also worked at Foley's Pharmacy in Summerside and the Ross Drug Co., in Amherst and Fredericton, N.B. He was the first pharmacist at H.V.R.H. where he worked for 20 years prior to his first retirement in 1979. After 2 weeks of retirement, he worked in a part time capacity at Pugsley's Drug Store; before finally retiring at the age of 83. Pharmacy was a profession that Bob thoroughly enjoyed. He loved meeting and talking with people. He was an adherent of First Baptist Church, a friend and attendee of Christ Church Anglican. Everyone that knew Bob, knew he loved to talk. Bob was a member of the Amherst "Y"'s Mens Club from 1971; he belonged to the Cumberland Car Club, where he proudly displayed his 1960 Rambler American, affectionately known as "The Green Hornet". In his younger days, he enjoyed camping, and belonged to the "Flyway Campers" of Amherst. Bob is the beloved husband of 50 years of Gladys Marion (Hooper) Stevenson; loving father of daughter, Marian Ruth (Bill) Johnston, Herring Cove; brother of Ruth (Allison) MacMillan, Charlottetown; and grandfather of Aaron and Chloe. Bob's remains are resting in Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst, with visiting today, 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., in First Baptist Church, Rev. Byron Corkum officiating and assisted by Father David Myles. Interment will be Tuesday 3 p.m, in St. John's Church Cemetery, Milton, P.E.I., with Rev. Knorr leading the graveside committal service. He was much loved and will be missed always. Donations in Bob's memory may be made to the Cumberland YMCA or a charity of choice. By request family flowers only.
