Obit: DIKENS, George Wayman
DIKENS, George Wayman - 80, 12 Queen St., Amherst, formerly of Springhill, passed away Monday, June 17, 2002, in Dr. George DuMont Hospital, Moncton, N.B. Born in River Philip, Cumberland Co., he was a son of the late Thomas and Florence (Brenton) Dikens. He was an adherent to Amherst Wesleyan Church; he served overseas during the Second World War from 1939 to 1945; he worked 30 years with the signal department of C.N. Railway before retiring to Amherst; past president of the Odd Fellows Lodge, Londonderry and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 10, Amherst; he enjoyed square dancing and his family. He is survived by his wife, the former Ethel MacDonald; son, Rick (Marilyn) Dikens, Riverview, N.B.; foster sons, David (Hope) Rutt, Zealand, N.B.; Brett (Elaina) Kaizer, Beckwith, Cumberland Co.; brother, Douglas (Jean) Dikens, Moncton, N.B.; sisters, Roma Scott, Amherst; Helen Hafer, Victoria, B.C.; four grandchildren; four foster grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Ivan; sister, Eileen. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in A.H. Brown Funeral Home, Springhill. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, in Amherst Wesleyan Church, Amherst, Rev. Raymond R. Fancy officiating. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Springhill. Donations to a charity of choice would be appreciated.
