SLOCUM, Ray W. - 75, Apple River, Cumberland Co., died Friday, June 14, 2002, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in Apple River, he was a son of the late Capt. Charles Whitfield and Winnifred (Elderkin) Slocum. He owned and operated R. Slocum Enterprises as a forestry and trucking contractor. Also, he and his wife operated East End Grocery in Apple River for many years. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, the former Ethel Allen; daughters, Ellen Johnston and her husband Floyd, New Salem; Mabel Ells and her husband Randy, Halifax; Erma Cox and her husband Bruce, Bass River; sons, Ronald and his wife Bernice, Glenholme; Ricky and his companion Christine Mills, Portapique; Raymond and his wife Dawn, Great Village; sisters, Jean Spicer and her husband Stanley; Marie Embrett and her husband Max, all of Dartmouth; Louise Shipley, Sarnia, Ont.; sister-in-law, Gloria Slocum, Brampton, Ont.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by sister, Faye; brother, Floyd; brothers-in-law, Norman Shipley and Thornton Smith. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Advocate Baptist Church, where funeral will be held 4 p.m. Sunday. Burial in Advocate Cemetery.
