Obit: GODFREY, Marion Elizabeth
GODFREY, Marion Elizabeth - 89, The Mira, Truro, formerly of Oxford and Springhill, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, Friday, June 7, 2002, in The Mira. Born in North Greenville, Cumberland Co., she was a daughter of the late Stacey L. and Matilda (Fountain) Moore. She was a member of Church of the Nazarene in Springhill and Oxford, and taught Sunday school for 50 years. She, along with her husband, owned and operated Godfrey's grocery store in Springhill for 18 years following the closure of the Springhill coal mines. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are daughters, Jean Davis (Raymond), Debert; Marilyn Austin (Leo), Truro; son, Douglas Godfrey Jr. (Barbara), Mount Pleasant, Cumberland Co.; grandchildren, Timothy, Paul and Mark Austin, Paula, Andrew, Stephen and Theodore Godfrey; 11 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas E. Godfrey; sister, Elsie Rushton; brothers, Boyd, George and Ivan Moore; a brother in infancy. Visitation will be this evening with a funeral service at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 9, both in Allen's Funeral Home, 60 Water St., Oxford, Rev. Bert Collins officiating. Burial will take place in Thomson Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Nazarene Church Missionaries Medical Care Fund, Gideon Bible Society or Big Lake Camp Fund.
