WELSH, George Edwin, CD - 71, Pugwash, passed away peacefully June 2, 2002, in Highland View Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving wife and children. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late John and Janet (Williams) Welsh. He had a long career with the Royal Canadian Army, serving from 1949 to 1982. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 60, Pugwash, presently serving as Sergeant of Arms and had served on the executive for a number of years. He was a long-time member of the Masonic Lodge and was well-known for playing Santa Claus in Pugwash. He had been delivering meals for many years with the Meals On Wheels organization. Surviving are his wife, the former Helen Ritchie; daughters, Linda (Raymond) Tucker, Calgary; Debbie (Dean) Breiese, Drumheller, Alta.; Cheryl (John) Meller, Indus, Alta.; Patricia Welsh, Calgary; sons, Bill (Karen), Chilliwack, B.C.; Ken (Kathie), Calgary; sisters, Irene (Hugh) Graves, Halifax; Elsie (Skip) Baird, Ontario; Linda (John) Thomas, Lower Sackville; Joan (Tom) Tanoski, Dauphin, Man.; Geraldine (George) Carroll, Halifax; Cathy Welsh (Norman Andrews), Halifax; brothers, Lionel (Cecelia), Pugwash River; Max (Shirley) Halifax; Gordon (Audrey) Halifax; Clyde (Carolyn), Halifax; Kenny (Beth), Halifax; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, Legion tribute service at 7 p.m. tonight, funeral service 2 p.m. Wednesday, all in Mundle's Funeral Home, Pugwash, Rev. Janet Travers officiating. Burial will be in Pugwash River Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Meals On Wheels, Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 60, or a charity of choice.
