Obit: BRYAN, Douglas Joseph

BRYAN, Douglas Joseph - 80, 98 Church St., Springhill, passed away Friday, May 3, 2002, at his residence. Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late Henry and Bertha (DuJay) Bryan. He served in the Canadian Army for three and a half years and worked in the coal mines for 28 years. He enjoyed baseball and hockey games, sports, bowling, dancing, television and his family. He is survived by his wife, the former Sophie Wheaton; sons, Roderick (Karen) Byran, Claude (Dorene) Bryan, Richard (Pam) Bryan, all of Springhill; daughter, Grace (Brian) MacLeod, Springhill; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; stepsons, Joseph (Joanne) Bryan, Saint John, N.B.; Reginald Carson Bryan, Springhill; David Eric Bryan, Dartmouth; stepdaughters, Linda Bryan, Halifax; Beverly Ann (Alexander) Sharpe, Shirley (Donald) Martin, both of Springhill; 10 step-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; sister, June Mills, Valley Road, Cumberland Co.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Louise Wheaton; son, Wayne; daughter, Diane; grandsons, Michael, Matthew, Westly; stepsons, Wade, Daniel; brothers, Joseph, Percy, James, Vernon, Roderick, Hector, Harold, Paul, Earl. Visitation was held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Sunday in A.H. Brown Funeral Home, Springhill. Funeral will be held 11 a.m. today, May 6, in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Springhill, Deacon Howard Gotell officiating. Burial in North Street Roman Catholic Cemetery, Springhill, at a later date. Donations to Canadian Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated.
