Obit: Fraser, Douglas Elliott

Fraser, Douglas Elliott - 69, Amherst, died Thursday, April 25, 2002, in Highland View Regional Hospital,
Amherst, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late Annie (Elliott) and George Fraser. Doug received a diploma in engineering from Saint Francis Xavier University and a civil engineering degree from Nova Scotia Technical College in 1959. He worked with the Department of Transportation in Truro, Kentville, New Glasgow, Yarmouth, Amherst and Dartmouth, retiring in 1991 after 33 years of service. Doug was a member of Trinity Saint Stephen's United Church, Amherst and a former member of First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow. He will be fondly emembered for his kindness and gentle manner. Doug is survived by his wife, Betty (Campbell); son, Brad and girlfriend Leah, Halifax; daughter, Nancy; son-in-law, Rod Letcher; granddaughter, Lauren, all of Amherst. He is also survived by sisters, Pearl Baudoux, Melda (Roy) MacGregor, Audrey (Raymond) MacQuarrie, all of New Glasgow; Lola (Roy) MacKenzie, Dartmouth; several nieces and nephews. The remains are resting in R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow, where visiting was held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday. Funeral to be held in First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, 11 a.m. today, April 27, Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only. In his memory, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia, Victorian Order of Nurses or a charity of choice.
