Obit: McMASTER, Garnet Edgar "Tettie"
McMASTER, Garnet Edgar "Tettie" - 80, 22 Junction Rd., Springhill, Cumberland Co., passed away peacefully Monday, March 18, 2002, in Moncton City Hospital. Born in Chignecto, Cumberland Co., he was a son of the late James Wellington and Rebecca Ellen (Bowlsby) McMaster. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was an adherent of St. Andrew's Wesley United Church,
Springhill. He served during the Second World War with the Canadian Army, serving as a Communications Officer. Following the war he was employed as a coal miner with the Cumberland Railway and Coal Company, Springhill and was one of the survivors of the 1958 Springhill Bump in colliery number 2. Following the closure of the mines, he was employed as a laborer and painter. During the 1960s he was a member of the North Nova Scotia Highlanders Militia in Springhill. He loved the outdoors and he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed reading and was a great storyteller. He was a man with a keen sense of humor, and laughed easily. Surviving are his wife, the former Annie Beatrice Bird, Advocate; son, Mr. Glen McMaster (Deborah), Springhill; daughters, Mrs. Brenda Pepperdine (Kenneth), Mrs. Lorna Hunter (Larry), Mrs. Vicky Dulong (Roland), all of Springhill; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, George Edson McMaster; sisters, Edna Duncan, Joyce McCarthy, Freda Campbell, Pat Privell, Eva Rector and Muroye Lowden; brothers, Chester and Earl McMaster. Cremation has taken place at the request of the deceased. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in St. Andrew's Wesley United Church, Main Street, Springhill, Rev. Roger Moore officiating. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Springhill at a later date. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Last Post Fund or a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Allen's Funeral Home, 60 Water St., Oxford.
