Obit: DELAY, Edwin A

DELAY, Edwin A. - 90, Collingwood, Cumberland Co., passed away Thursday, May 17, 2001, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in Westchester, Cumberland Co., he was a son of
the late Warren and Annie (Ralston) Delay. He was a past patron of the Sunrise Chapter 50, Order of the Eastern Star, Pugwash. He received a commission from the Order of the Eastern Star as grand representative of Delaware. He was also a member of Acacia Masonic Lodge 49, Moncton and within a few months he would have received his 50 years jewel from that lodge. He was a member of Widows Son Masonic Lodge 48, River Philip, a 32 Degree Mason and a Scottish Rite Shriner. As a young man, he was employed with Acadian Lines as an instructor and driver in the maritime provinces. Following this he moved to California where he was employed as a diesel mechanic holding a diploma in Diesel and Scientific Motor Tune Up, from Utilities Engineering Institute in Chicago, Ill. Following 33 years in the United States, he returned to Nova Scotia to retire. He was a member of United Church of Canada, Oxford Area Men's Choir and the Oxford Pioneer Heritage Club. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and square dancer. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He leaves to mourn his wife, the former Effie C. (Ripley) Giddens; stepsons, Harold Giddens and wife Wendy, Halifax; Gerald Giddens and wife Phyllis, New Minas; step-granddaughter, Jane, California; step-grandsons, Jason, Halifax; Christopher and Andrew, both of Dartmouth; several
cousins. He was predeceased by brother, Ivan. Visitation will be Saturday afternoon and evening in Allen's Funeral Home, 60 Water St., Oxford. Sunrise Chapter 50, Order of the Eastern Star, Pugwash will hold a tribute service in the funeral home Saturday at 7 p.m. the Widows Son Masonic Lodge 48, River Philip will hold a tribute service in the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service 7 p.m. Sunday, May 20, in Collingwood United Church, Rev. Claudia Keller officiating, assisted by Rev. Dewis J. Rector. Interment will take place in Wentworth United Church Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Cumberland Shrine Club Memorial Fund or a charity of choice.
