Obituary for Fred PATTERSON

Many friends in Oxford and vicinity will learn with regret of the
passing of Fred M. PATTERSON, of 11032-119th St., Apt., 102, Edmonton,
Alberta, formerly of Oxford, on December 14th, 1983. Fred had been in
poor health for some time and passed away following an heart attack.
Born at Pugwash River 62 years ago, he was the younger son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. John Patterson of Oxford. He lived most of his life in
Oxford, when he moved to Edmonton two and a half years ago.
He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl (Mrs. Ed. KNIGHT) of Masstown,
Colchester County, and Patricia at home in Edmonton, also by one sister,
Alice (Mrs. Lewis UMLAH) of Halifax, and two granddaughters. He was
predeceased ten years ago by his wife, the former Millie MILLARD, R.N.,
of Springhill, and brother Elmer of Oxford.
When World War II started in 1939, Fred was one of the first to enlist
in the Canadian Army. He went overseas with the First Canadian
Contingent with the West Nova Scotia Regiment, where he served five
years. He was wounded twice while serving in Italy. He was employed as
a commissionaire at Halifax for several years.
The body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at
MacDiarmid's Funeral Home, Oxford, at a later date. (From clippings
from the Oxford Journal, 1983.)
