Silas Ezra STILES

STILES (Dempsey), Silas Ezra - 87, Tyndal Road, passed away Friday, December 3, 1999, in All
Saints Hospital, Springhill. Born in East Amherst he was a son of the late Silas and Etta (Smith)
Stiles. Following school he worked in different sawmills in Cumberland, Colchester and
Westmoreland Counties for 15 years before going to work at Canada Car in Amherst. He then
worked on survey crews for the Nova Scotia Department of Highways until his retirement in the
early 70's. During this time he also owned and operated a farm until later years. He played hockey
for the East Amherst Hurricanes during the 30's and 40's. He is survived by his wife, the former
Audrey Tucker; daughters, Joan Carter (Maynard), Amherst; Marjorie Cuvilier (Albert), Lake
Echo; June Weeks (Charles), Port Howe; Doreen Seaman (Brian), Lake Killarney; sons, Silas
(Myrna), Midgic, N.B.; Percy (Christine), Tyndal Road; brothers, Gerald, Fox Ranch Road;
Roland, Whitby, Ont.; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by an infant
son, Ronald; sisters, Margaret, Pearl Lewis, Jean Norhtrup, Vivian Robinson, Evelyn Guitard, Eva;
brothers, John, Herbert, Edward, Albert, Arnold, Leon. His remains are resting in Furlong' s
Funeral Home, Amherst, with visitation from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral service 2 p.m. Sunday, in
Cumberland Memorial Chapel, Amherst, Rev. Charlene Maguire officiating. Burial in the Amherst
Cemetery. No flowers by request, memorial donations may be made to the Highland View Regional
Hospital Foundation, All Saints Hospital, Victorian Order of Nurses or the Canadian Cancer Society.
