Sheila G. Pipes
1934-2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Sheila
Gertrude Pipes, age 82, of Upper Nappan, NS. Sheila passed away at the
Halifax Infirmary with family by her side on Wednesday, June 7, 2017.
Born in Dawson Settlement, NB, she was a daughter of the late Ira and Hilda
(Steeves) Mills.
Sheila attended Moncton High School before attending Acadia University
graduating with a degree in Sociology. She then moved to Amherst in 1955,
where she became a Social Worker with the Children's Aid of Cumberland Co.,
retiring after 30 years service with Cumberland Mental Health. She received
the Freda Vickery Award in 1995 for her years within social work. She was a
faithful member of Trinity St. Stephen United Church, a primary life member
of the Tantramar IODE, and active member of the Amherst Duplicate Bridge
Club. Sheila was well known within the Masonic and Shriner's Community
having supported her husband Harris throughout his Masonic Journey.
She will be dearly missed by her son, Alan (Connie), Upper Nappan;
grandchildren, Emily (David Quinn) and Cory; sister-in-law, Julia Mills,
Edmonton, AB; special nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Harris; siblings, Elsie Hawkesworth,
Ellen Hosford, Barbara Mills and James Mills.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70
Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place
on Friday from 6 to 8 pm and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A
Celebration of Life will be held from the funeral home on Sunday, June 11,
2017 at 2 pm, Rev. Marion Lloy officiating. Burial will take place in the
Amherst Cemetery at a later date.
Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Sheila may do so to the VON or
the Bridge Workshop in Amherst or a charity of your choice.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Herman and the
staff of 5.1 and 7.1, Halifax Infirmary.
