COUGHLAN, ROSE MARIE The death of Rose Marie Coughlan of Oromocto, NB,
occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Friday, July 23, 2004. Born
in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the Rose Anne Mason (Walsh) and
the late Jack Walsh and the wife of Peter Coughlan. Survived by her husband
Peter, and beloved son Sean of Oromocto, two brothers, ***Archie Walsh
(Lynda) of Sydney, NS*** and Danny Walsh (Sue) of Madoc, ON; five sisters,
***Eileen Murphy (Cecil) of Darthmouth, NS, Jackie Ferdinand (Carson) of
Truro, NS***, Mary Elizabeth Mossop (Stewart) of Burton, NB, Joanne MacQueen
(Murdoch) of New Waterford, NS and Lucy Kennedy (Robert) of Ottawa, ON. She
will be deeply missed by her family and especially her many nieces and
nephews. She is predeceased by her ***father Jack Walsh and her brother
Mickey Walsh***. Rosey worked for Bayshore as a Home Care Worker and
thoroughly enjoyed being able to help people who needed it. Visitation will
be held at Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Sunday, July 25th, 2004
from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral mass will be held at St. Mary's Chapel on
Base on Monday, July 26th, at 11:00 am. Padre Yaroslav Tabaka and Padre
Ellis Jagoe will officiate. Interment will be at a later date. For those who
wish, memorial tributes made to the New Brunswick Heart and Stoke Foundation

Crutch Accident Takes Waterford Man's Life
New Waterford - Jackie Walsh, 48, well-known mine-worker and local union
figure, died Tuesday in the Victoria General Hospital from injuries received
in a fall at his home on the evening of March 14. Mr. Walsh suffered a heavy
fall at his King Street home when a strap on his crotch broke causing him to
fall upon it, sustaining severe chest injuries. Mr. Walsh suffered loss of a
leg in a mine accident many years ago and had walked with the aid of
crutches or an artificial leg since that time.
It was reported that he was about to retire at his home and was just
ascending the stairway when one of the straps on his crutch broke, causing
him to fall heavily. The end of the crutch pierced his chest causing severe
bleeding.
Mr. Walsh was rushed to the local hospital by MacGillivray's ambulance
service with local police and street departments co-operating in the mercy
mission, made in the face of a severe storm whish had blocked local streets.
He was attended at the local hospital by Dr. D.S. Nathanson and was flown to
Halifax Saturday for specialized treatment of severe chest injuries, which
however, resulted in his death Tuesday.
It was reported Tuesday night that no inquest would be held in the fatality
as circumstances of the accident and immediate cause of death had been
ascertained. The fatal accident was the first of the year for the local
district.
Mr. Walsh was born in Newfoundland and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Michael Walsh. He was taken to New Waterford as a child and received his
education here. While working in No. 16 Colliery some 20 years ago, he
suffered the loss of a leg in the mine and on his recovery from this injury
was employed on the surface at the colliery.
Very active in union circles, he served as a local officer and committeeman
for many years.
He was a member of Mount Carmel Church and funeral services will be held
there later this week. Remains are expected to arrive from Halifax Wednesday
and will repose at the family home, 40 King Street.
Mr. Walsh was twice married. His first wife was Vera MacQueen, who
predeceased him by many years. His second wife, the former Rose Ann
Chaisson, survives. A daughter of the first marriage predeceased him and
children of that union who survive are ***sons, Archie, R.C.A.F. Camp Borden
and Michael, of Vancouver; daughters, Eileen, of the provincial service in
Halifax, and Jacqueline, who attends Macdonald High School in Dominion***.
Children of the second marriage are Jo Anne, Rosalie, Daniel, Wilfrieda
Marie and Lucy, all at home.
Other survivors are a brother, Ed of Trail, B.C.; and sisters, Josephine
(Mrs. William Napier), Halifax; Dorothy (Mrs. William Murray), Dartmouth;
Elinor (Mrs. Nick Epifano), of Sydney; Alice (Mrs. William MacPherson),
Sydney; and Ann (Mrs. Martin Grahame), New Waterford. There are two
step-sisters, Alice (Mrs. George Donovan) and Margaret (Mrs. Lawrence
MacCarthy), both of town.
