William Earl Brown -
The death of Mr. William E. BROWN, Joggins, N.S., occurred at the Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst, following a lengthy illness, on Friday, February 10, 1984. He was 81 years of age. Born in Joggins, N.S., he was the son of the late George and Edith (McWhirter) Brown. Mr. Brown was a coal miner and fisherman most of his life. He is survived by three daughters; Mrs. Edith Purdy, and Mrs. Shirley Brine, both of Joggins, Violet (Mrs. Edward Palmer) of Moncton, N.B.; five sons: Robert of Shilo, Man., Austin of Ragged Reef, N.S., Clifford of Calgary, Alt., Earl and Donald both of Lower Cove, N.S.; one step-daughter, Florence (Mrs. Wilfred Finley) of Linden, N.S. and one step-son, Harold Crossman of Lr. Sackville, N.S.; six sisters: Ruby Brown of Toronto, Mrs. Ella Porter of River Hebert, N.S., Mrs. Grace Niznik of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Pearl Ayala of Alpina, Mich., Mrs. Annie Bistelraph of Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Ethel Crast of Detroit, Mich.; one brother, Basil Brown of Joggins, N.S.; 36 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 7 step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Roseana Legere and his second wife, the former Gladys Cove, one sister Stella, three brothers, Charles, Leroy and Cecil and a great-grandson James. The late Mr. Brown rested at Campbell's Funeral Home, Amherst. Funeral service was held from the funeral home on Monday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Bob and Rev. Margaret Mack officiating. Burial to take place in the Latta Cemetery, River Hebert, at a later date.

Shirley Jean Brown
1935-2017

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Shirley
Jean Brown, age 81, of Joggins. Shirley passed away peacefully at her home
surrounded by her loving and supportive family after a lengthy illness.

Born in Lower Cove, NS, she was a daughter of the late William and Roseanna
(Legere) Brown.

Affectionately called Petsy by her friends and family, Shirley enjoyed
knitting and quilting and loved to host family gatherings. She was well
known for her pet rock that she brought from New Brunswick years ago and
always had near by for everyone to admire. Shirley was a humble lady who
worked hard at home and at her job with Northern Telecom. Family came first
for her. No one ever went hungry or cold, she was a wonderful mother, and a
true provider.

She will be dearly missed by her children Margaret (Laurie) Melanson,
Joggins, Linda Boyd, Amherst, NS, Patrick Brine (Sheila), Springhill, NS,
Kathy (Tom) Stewart, New Glasgow, NS, Wade (Brenda Kemsley) Brine, Maccan,
NS, Darrah (Helen) Brine, Joggins, Jeremy Brine, Lower Cove, NS; several
grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, Clifford and Donald (Laura)
Brown; sisters-in-law, Katherine Brown and Beulah Brown; brother-in-law,
Edward Palmer, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers Austin, Earl and Robert
(Kenetta); sisters, Edith (Aubrey) and Violet, and a sister-in-law, Annette.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Furlong~Jones Funeral Home,
Main Street, River Hebert (902-251-2877) where a private family visitation
will be held prior to cremation taking place. Funeral Mass will be
celebrated from St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, Joggins on
Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 11 am, Deacon Howard Gotell officiating. Burial
will take place beside her parents at a later date.
