December 09, 1923 - March 31, 2017
Black, Alan - 93, Oxford passed away Friday, March 31, 2017 in East
Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. Born in Methil, Scotland he was a son of the late
Alan and Barbara (Watt) Black. Alan volunteered and joined Royal Canadian
Navy at the age of 17. He was veteran of the Second World War, having served
on many vessels including the HMCS Buckingham. Upon returning he worked at
the Cobequid Lumber Company for many years. He was a founding member of the
Oxford Kingdom Hall of Jehovah¹s Witnesses, having served the congregation
for over 65 years. Alan loved the outdoors, whether hunting, trapping, fly
fishing or gardening, he loved being outside in nature. Alan is survived by
his wife of 70 years, the former Irene Falconer; son Bruce and daughter,
Wendy Black; granddaughters, Tammy (Alan) Dupuis and Jamie (Reginald)
Robinson; great grandchildren, Kelsie Black, Kristin Dupuis; Rylle, Leaham
and Regan Robinson; brothers, Bill; Eric; James ³Tudor² (Irene); sister,
Jeanne MacDonald; sister in law Delilah Black; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by son, David; brother, David; sister in law, Elaine;
brother in law, Russell MacDonald; a son in infancy. Visitation will be from
6-8 p.m., Friday, April 7, with funeral service at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 8,
both in MacDiarmid¹s Funeral Home & Crematorium, 5075 Main Street, Oxford
(902-447-2930). The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses
at East Cumberland Lodge for the special privileges given to our family
