I have been in contact with a Dowe cousin of James Albert Gallagher off the list who confirms he is indeed the correct fellow.

CAMBRIDGE MAN FOUND DEAD FROM GAS
James Gallagher, 30, a mechanic, rooming at 54 Prospect street, Cambridge, died at the Cambridge City Hospital yesterday afternoon an hour after he had been found in his gas filled second floor room.
John F. Fortier smelled gas and found Gallagher unconscious with three gas jets in the room open. Police took him to the hospital.
Gallagher's wife and child could not be found last night. His father, Albert, lives in Spring Hill, Nova Scotia.
