NEWBURYPORT - Robert Irving Boothroyd, 85, longtime Newburyport resident, died peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011.

By his side were his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Thelma (Morris) Boothroyd and his four daughters, Thea Gove of Amesbury, Karen Magee of Raleigh, N.C., Rochelle L'Italien of Exeter, N.H., and Renee Boothroyd of Pittsboro, N.C.
Bob was a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran, and worked as a lineman with New England Telephone for nearly 30 years. After retirement, he was a devoted volunteer at Anna Jaques Hospital throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Bob maintained a lifelong interest in aviation, history, weather, and nature, and had a soft-spoken devotion to family and friends. He will always be remembered for his quick wit, smile, and charm.
Bob's influence, wisdom, and ideas will live on in so many lives, including his son-in-laws, Joe Magee of Raleigh, N.C., and Andre Dalrymple of Pittsboro, N.C., and especially his grandchildren, Christine and Katherine Magee, Derek and Wesley L'Italien and their father, Rodney L'Italien; and great-grandchild, Emily Magee, to whom he was a devoted mentor. At the home, Bob will be particularly missed by his constant companions, cats, Blackie and Wolfie.
