Marie (Butt) Colby. Father to William A. Colby and his wife Lisa of
Newburyport, John R. Colby and his wife Cindy of Duncanville,TX, Bruce A.
Colby of Newburyport, Marjorie Colby-Sullivan of Hamilton, Janice C. Morse
and her husband Charles of Berwick, ME, Peter L. Colby of Seabrook, NH, Paul
F. Colby and his wife Ann of Newburyport, Scott P. Colby and his wife
Heather of Amesbury and the late Louis B. Colby, Jr. Father- in-law of the
late Phil L. Sullivan, Jr. He was the cherished grandfather of his 15
grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Lou's
Funeral Service will be in the Old South Church, 29 Federal St. Newburyport
on Thursday at 10:30 AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to
attend. Interment will be in Sawyer Hill Burial Ground, Newburyport. The
family has asked for donations to be made in Lou's name to the Endangered

V. Marie Colby, 89
NEWBURYPORT ‹ Mrs. V. Marie (Butt) Colby, 89, of Newburyport, died Monday,
May 9, 2011 in Country Manor Nursing Home after a brief illness. She was the
devoted wife to Louis B. Colby with whom she shared 69 years of marriage.
Marie was born in Spenser Island, Nova Scotia, Canada, daughter of the late
Joseph P. and Margaret A. (Morris) Butt. Marie came to the United States at
age two and resided in Tarrytown, N.Y. At the age of 16, she moved to
Newburyport where she has resided for the past 73 years.
Marie's true devotion was raising her nine children. She also enjoyed
driving the tractor and haying fields on the family farm. Marie also enjoyed
gardening, walking, bird watching, cooking and was an avid sports fan.
In addition to her loving husband she is survived by her children, William
A. Colby and his wife Lisa of Newburyport, John R. Colby and his wife Cindy
of Duncanville, Texas, Bruce A. Colby of Newburyport, Marjorie Colby
Sullivan and her late husband Phil of Hamilton, Janice C. Morse and her
husband Charles of Berwick, Maine, Peter L. Colby of Seabrook, N.H., Paul F.
Colby and his wife Ann of Newburyport, Scott P. Colby and his wife Heather
of Amesbury and the late Louis B. Colby, Jr. She was the sister of Reginald
Butt and his wife Ruth of California, Alma Pingree and her husband George of
Merrimac, Zelma Badessa and her husband Anthony of Westwood and the late
Elmer L. "Bubby" Butt. She was the cherished grandmother of 14 grandchildren
and great-grandmother of seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by
many nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Private funeral services will be held in the Twomey-LeBlanc
and Conte Funeral Home, 193 High St., Newburyport. Interment will be in
Sawyer Hill Burial Ground, Newburyport. Donations in Marie's Memory may be
made to the Friends of Maudslay State Park Association, 74 Curzon Hill Road,
Newburyport, MA 01950.
