Obit: BEATTIE, Bernice Ardath [nee MURPHY]

Bernice A. Beattie
1930-2017

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Bernice Ardath
Beattie, age 86, of Amherst. Bernice passed away peacefully, surrounded by
loving family on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at the Cumberland Regional Health
Care Centre.

Bernice was born in Wolfville, NS, a daughter of the late Stanley and
Vernita (Keddy) Murphy.

Bernice had taken Commercial Classes in Amherst and had worked as a
secretary with Hicks & Douglas for over 5 years. She was the wife of a
Forest Ranger where her home became his office for over 18 years. Bernice
was a member of Christ Church and a former member of the Pythian Sisters,
Elizabeth Temple #6. She was involved with Girl Guides of Canada where she
had been a Brown Owl for the Amherst Branch and District Commissioner for
the Oxford Area. Bernice was involved in her community, volunteering for
many different organizations.

She will be sadly missed by sons, William (Darlene), Bruce (Lori), both of
Oxford; daughters, Beth Beattie, Iqaluit, NWT and Cathi Saunders, Moncton;
9 grandchildren Nathan, Jonathan, Ryan, Kent, Joel, Brenden, Dawn, Brittany
and Nicole and 4 great grandchildren Noel, Tristan, Trinity and Holden; 2
sisters, Aline Journeay (Howard), Little Fort, BC, Sally Jay (Elwood),
Mermaid, PE; son-in-law Brian Saunders, Ireland.

She was predeceased by her husband Joe and a sister Marjorie Roberts.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70
Church St, Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visitation will take place on
Friday from 6 to 8 pm. A funeral service will be held at Christ Church,
Amherst on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 10:30 am. Burial will take place in
the Amherst Cemetery at a later date.
