 PETTIPAS, Michael Leo - 89, Halifax, passed away June 1, 2005, in QEII Health Sciences Centre. Born in Windsor, in 1915, he was a son of the late Michael and Elizabeth (Meaney) Pettipas. Michael served in the Canadian Armed Forces in Canada during the Second World War. Throughout his life, Mike was a loyal churchgoer and took great solace in the Catholic faith. A federal government employee, Mike retired from the Department of National Defense, Planning Division, in 1975. His lengthy retirement was highlighted by his trips to Florida, his cherished friends and beloved grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered for his passion for violin (and fiddle) music and for his brave attempt to learn to play the violin, commencing lessons at the age of 87. Michael is survived by his daughter, Yvonne Pettipas (Mike Chagljevich), Halifax; grandchildren, Mark, Andre and Vanessa, all of Halifax. He was predeceased by his wife, Lida Ettinger Pettipas; son, Maurice Leon; sisters, Violet, Evelyn, Madeline and Winifred; brothers, Wilfred and John. Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. Funeral mass will be held in St. Theresa's Catholic Church, North Street, Halifax, on Monday, June 6, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Thomas White officiating. Private family burial to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Donations in his memory may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
