Betty Spratt
Spratt, Betty ³Jo-Anne²
Jo-Anne was at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital when God took her
home on Wednesday, May 18th, 2016. Born in Wolfville, NS on June 30th, 1936,
she was the daughter of the late Greta Mae Ritchie and Michael Pettipas.
She is survived by her sister, Barbara Lorraine Phelan and nieces, Valerie
Phelan (Eric Wilson) and Deanna Phelan.
She was predeceased by her parents, step-father, Edgar Ritchie and
brother-in-law, Michael Phelan.
Jo-Anne will always be remembered as an intelligent, articulate, kind and
loving individual who had many passions. She could play the Trivia Pursuit
Game and answer every question. She was a wonderful conversationalist and
was always up on current affairs and one of her favorite passtime of all was
going for long drives. Her greatest interest was music, being a gifted
singer and organist who, many years ago, enjoyed singing in the choir under
the direction of Helen MacKinnon. Music was also important when she became
heavily involved with square dancing which fed her fervour for exercise as
well. She liked to entertain, welcoming the many Equestrian Clinicians with
open arms who stayed with the family. Her passion for cooking was enjoyed by
family, friends and visitors alike; her specialities being the best lemon
fluff dessert and a magnificent rice and raisin milk custard. Her love for
family was all encompassing and everyone enjoyed receiving their birthday
card. (Always with money stashed inside.) Many dogs, cats and horses
benefitted from her kindnesses and above all else, she had unwavering
Christian beliefs.
Much of Jo-Anne¹s life was spent working as a Federal Civil Servant in
Ottawa, ON and CFB Gagetown, Oromocto, NB. However, she also enjoyed a
successful partnership in a floral company in the Ottawa area.
The family wish to thank Agnes and Milton Powers, Dr. Vaughann Roxborough,
Dr. David Addleman, Dr. Randal, Dr. Cruz, Marty Hood and Nancy French and
all the nurses at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital that took
wonderful care and treatment of Aunt Jo-Anne through her life. Arrangements
have been entrusted to McAdam¹s Funeral Home (458-9170) and online
remembrances may be left at www.mcadamsfh.com
