Nellie Josephine Coldwell
1911-2012
Nellie Josephine Coldwell - 101, of Wolfville, formerly of Gaspereau, Kings
County, passed away peacefully, Friday, September 14, 2012 in the Valley
Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Lower Wolfville, she was the daughter
of the late George Byron and Florence Rose (Kelly) Coldwell. She grew up in
Gaspereau and spent most of her life in the Gaspereau Valley, where she was
a member of the Gaspereau United Baptist Church. She graduated from the
Provincial Normal College in 1931 and taught briefly before farming for 30
years alongside her husband. She later returned to teaching, from where she
retired. She was a loving mother and a true friend to all who knew her. She
is survived by her daughter, Ann Laura Coldwell (Margaret Morton),
Wolfville; step-grandchildren, Andrew (Angela) Ewing and Megan Ewing;
step-great grandchild, Madeline Ewing; brother-in-law, Randolph Gertridge;
several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Arnold
Leander Coldwell; infant sister, Audrey Louise Coldwell; sister, Mabel
Gertridge; brothers, Merritt and Frank. Cremation has taken place under the
direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville. There will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service will
be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2012 in the Gaspereau United
Baptist Church, Reverend Mark Shaw officiating. Burial will take place in
the Gaspereau Cemetery. A reception will follow in the Gaspereau Community
Centre. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital -
Carey Me Fund (for palliative care in the home) or the charity of your
choice. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the doctors,
nurses and staff of Medical B at the Valley Regional Hospital for the care
and compassion given to Nellie. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to
the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
