Doreen Millicent Blenkhorn
Passed on: September 5th, 2007
VANCOUVER - Doreen Millicent Blenkhorn, 88, Vancouver, B.C., formerly of
Stellarton. With great sadness the family announce the death of Doreen
Blenkhorn in West Vancouver on September 05, 2007. Born in Guildford,
England to the late George and Betty MacRae. Doreen and her beloved Fred had
resided briefly in Pictou before settling in Stellarton. Although Doreen
remained a homemaker she dedicated her time and talents to her church and
community and her love of gardening. Doreen was blessed with a beautiful
voice and performed as soloist on many occasions and especially in her
church and had the ability to offer her musical talents at the piano. She
was a tireless worker in the I.O.D.E., having been awarded an Honorary Life
Membership in her own Chapter, served on the Provincial and National
Executives and was Provincial Historian for many years. She was a member of
First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton and served faithfully with the WMS.
Doreen enjoyed writing letters and staying in touch with many relatives and
friends at home and abroad. In retirement years Doreen and Fred spent many
hours with their beautiful gardens and entertaining friends at their "Little
Camp" at Central Caribou. Doreen brought great joy to everyone who knew her
through her generous and fun loving spirit. As her health gradually declined
she moved to Vancouver in 2005, to be close to her daughter, Judy. Besides
her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Fred (1989) and her
only son, Allan (1999). Survived by daughter, Judy Gifford (Martin), West
Vancouver; and two granddaughters, Sara and Leighann Blenkhorn, Vancouver;
sister, Jean Thompson, Kingston, Ontario; two brothers, Bob MacRae,
Stellarton, and Gerald MacRae, Kamloops, B.C. A memorial service will be
held at First Presbyterian Church, Foord Street, Stellarton, Monday,
November 5th, 2007, at 3 p.m. A private family committal service will be
held at a later date.
