Obituary for Gwendolyn Rogers
1929–2017
Gwen, 87, of Riverview passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Friday,
January 20th. Gwen was a kind and compassionate soul and a great gift to her
family and friends.
She was born in Halifax on June 20th, 1929, the daughter of the late Arthur
Duffy and Muriel Duffy (nee Fraser). Gwen was a proud graduate of the former
Queen Elizabeth High school in Halifax. She was a loving mother to four
children and grandmother to two perfect grandchildren. She was able to live
in three of the Atlantic Provinces where she made many friends and memories.
She loved to express and share her gift of creativity with her family and
friends through painting, gardening, and sewing, among others. Her
creativity was one way for her to be in this world and highlight the beauty
and hope we sometimes neglect or find hard to see. Gwen so enjoyed her time
working at the fabric store Buttons and Bows in Riverview and the
relationships she built there. Despite Gwen’s many life challenges she
always looked for the good and encouraged others to do the same.She was
married 54 years to Lorne Rogers and was the center of his life. Her
grandchildren Scott and Thomas were a source of great joy and pride. Her
numerous friends knew her as fun–loving, generous and kind with a wonderful
sense of humour who valued their many get to together.
She was the beloved mother of Steven Rogers (Ottawa), Paul Rogers
(predeceased), Karen Rogers (Riverview) and Chris Rogers (Riverview), and
the cherished Nanny of Scott Lloyd (Toronto) and Thomas Lloyd (Riverview)
and loved mother–in–law of Ian Lloyd (Riverview).
Visitation with the family will be held at Fair Haven Funeral Home, 1177
Salisbury Road, Moncton 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Tuesday, January 24th.The funeral
service will held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, January 25th at St. Paul's United
Church, 404 Cleveland Avenue Riverview. A reception for Gwen's family and
friends will follow the service in the church hall. Interment in Fairhaven
Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to thank Renita Ethelston for all her care and love,
the staff at the Extra Mural Driscoll Unit, The Moncton Hospital and
Canterbury Nursing Home, as well as her devoted friends for all their care
and support. A special thank you to the person who paid for her daughter’s
Tim Horton’s coffee and the young man at the drive through who paid for her
bagel on that Friday morning of her death. It was a great gift of kindness
and reflected how Gwen choose to live her life.

J. Lorne Rogers, 79, of Riverview passed away at The Moncton Hospital on
Monday, August 7th 2006. Lorne persevered through his illness with great
dignity and courage. He was born in North Sydney, N.S, on May 31st, 1927,
the son of the late Jacob Rogers and Nelly Rogers (nee Bell). Lorne was a
long time active member of the United Commercial Travelers. He advocated for
many charitable community services through his affiliation with UCT. He was
employed with Robin Hood Multifoods Limited as supervisor for the Atlantic
region prior to his retirement in 1993. He truly
enjoyed his work and colleagues. His marriage of 54 years to Gwen (nee
Duffy) was the center of his life and his grandchildren Scott and Thomas a
source of great joy and pride. His numerous friends knew him as a devoted,
generous pal with a wonderful sense of humour who valued their many get to
togethers. He was the beloved father of Steven Rogers (Ottawa), Paul Rogers
(predeceased), Karen Rogers (Riverview) and Chris Rogers (Riverview), and
the cherished Grampy of Scott Lloyd and Thomas Lloyd. He was the caring
brother of Jean Miller (Halifax), Donna Stokes (Halifax) and Helen Hartling
(Ottawa). Lorne was the respected and loved father-in-law of Ian Lloyd
(Riverview) and Cheryl Snair (Ottawa). Besides his parents and son Paul,
Lorne was predeceased by his two brothers Norman Rogers and Robert (Bob)
Rogers. The family will receive friends at Fair Haven Funeral Home on
Thursday, August 10th from 6-8 PM. The funeral service will held at 11:00 AM
on Friday, August 11 at St. Paul?’s United Church, 404 Cleveland Avenue
Riverview. A reception for Lorne?’s family and friends will follow the
service in the church hall. Interment in Fairhaven Memorial Gardens. The
