Services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew and the Redeemer Church, South Boston, for Thomas W. Cox, founder of the Thomas W. Cox Electric Co.

Mr. Cox died at his daughter's house in Walpole on Friday. He was 94 and a lifelong resident of South Boston.

Mr. Cox started his electric company in 1918 with his late wife, Doris B. (Nichols), at first using his bicycle to solicit business. He was responsible for converting many homes in South Boston and Dorchester from gas to electric light.

Mr. Cox often corresponded with and visited Thomas Edison, inventor of the electric light bulb. …

Beverly Eldridge, 65, senior center director
WRENTHAM — Beverly J. “ Joy” Eldridge, 65, of 431 Franklin St. died Wednesday at her home. She was the widow of Richard J. Eldridge.
She had been director of the Wrentham Senior Citizens Center for the last 20 years and was a member of the board of trustees of both the Pond Home and the Community at Pond Meadow.
Born July 6, 1936, in Boston, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Doris (Nichols) Cox. She was a long-time resident of Wrentham, where she was very active in town affairs.
A graduate of South Boston High School, she attended Gordon College in Wenham.
Survivors are two sons, Richard J. Eldridge of Paget, Bermuda, and Mark D. Eldridge of Wrentham; a daughter, Kristin D. Eldridge of Wrentham; two brothers, Thomas Cox of West Roxbury and Richard Cox of Quincy; and six grandchildren. She also was a dear friend of Donna and Paul Martin.
Her funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 63 Rockwood St., Norfolk.
Arrangements are by the R.J. Ross Funeral Home, 135 South St., Wrentham.
Burial will be in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
