James F. Barrett, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 8, 2006, at New York State Veteran's Home, Oxford.
He was born in Ashland, N.H., son of the late Harry and Edith Barrett. He was predeceased by his first wife, Thelma Rose Barrett in 1982; and by two sisters, Elizabeth Mattlin, and Martha Wilson. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Grace Barrett, Greene; stepson and his wife, Roger and Jeanine Allen, Rome; stepdaughter-in-law, Doris Allen, Greene; several nieces and nephews.
Jim served his country during WWII in the Army Air Corps from 1942-1945. In 1940, he graduated with a Bachelor's of Science Degree from University of New Hampshire. He taught science and driver's education at Chenango Forks School District for 35 years. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, Greene, since 1946, and he was a longtime member of Chenango Valley Masonic Lodge #107, in Greene. A Masonic service and funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango St., Greene. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Bellows Falls, Vt. Friends of the family may call Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at Root Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Baptist Church, 41 South Chenango St., Greene, N.Y. 13778.
