Obituary

Earle (Harrison), Mary Denise "Dennie"
With God's grace and mercy, Denise, age 93, passed away on June 7, 2015,
with family by her side. She has joined her loving husband, William "Bill",
who passed away in 2006. She was born in Nappan, NS, on September 9, 1921,
to the late Gilbert and Ruby (King) Harrison, and was raised on the family
farm. After high school she studied bookkeeping and moved to Halifax with
her sister, Flo. She, like many others, volunteered for the RCAF in the
1940s. She served as a cook, including at a Sydney, NS, airfield, servicing
flights to/from Europe that fed aircrews at any time of day. Later she
worked as a bookkeeper for Harris & Roome. One night at a Jubilee Boat Club
dance, she met Billy Earle and romance ensued. They were wed on September 5,
1949, and were blessed with five children.
Mom and Dad were a great team, and the early years of their marriage were
challenging. Dad often travelled with his job while Mom dealt with young
children, few neighbours, and no car or nearby stores. Mom kept the coal
furnace stoked and the wringer washer busy; clothes and diapers dried
outside, even in freezing weather. Mom, in later years, admitted there were
nights when she cried herself to sleep. Eventually, the good times were more
frequent and the family thrived and benefitted from the love and nurturing
she provided. Each subsequent year got better and Mom felt fortunate to have
had a wonderful life. Her legacy is her family.
Mom was predeceased by her sisters, Eunice (Blair) Weatherdon-Embree and
Florence Mandy; sister-in-law, Ethel (Savoury) (Thibideau) Harrison;
brothers-in-law Cyril Weatherdon and Lawrence Mandy, and her son-in-law,
Arthur W. Savory. She is survived by her brother, Laurence Harrison (Alice)
and her children, Doug, Bob (Diane Arseneault), Kathie Earle-Vanasse (Bill),
Elizabeth Savory-Duval (Ben), Rosemary Kuehn (John); grandchildren, Paul,
Trevor, Leanne, Angela, Jacqui, Chris, Beth, Sarah, Peter, Ben;
great-grandchildren, Paighton, Spencer, Isabel, Rylan, Graeme, Claire and
Grayson.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 11, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at J.A.
Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. The funeral will be Friday,
June 12, at 10:30 am at St. Benedict Parish, 45 Radcliffe Drive, Halifax,
with reception following in the church hall. Interment at a later date.
Donations may be made to a charity of choice. Special thanks to the
caregivers at Bradford Hall, Parkland, Princess Lane, Parkstone Enhanced
Care, and Dr. Angela Morash.
