NEWCOMBE, Joan Elizabeth (MacDonald)
The Newcombe family regrets to announce the passing of a loving, wife,
mother and grandmother, after a valiant 2 year fight with lymphoma on
December 28th, 2012. Joan will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 44
years, Retired RCMP Sgt. Bill, son Michael (Gosia), daughter Beth, and the 2
biggest loves of her life, granddaughters Grace and Olivia. Joan was born in
Sydney, Nova Scotia to James Archibald and Mary Bernadette MacDonald
(Butts). She is survived by her sister, Mary Louise (Gary) Wilson, and
brothers Robert (Linda) MacDonald, Michael (Deborah) MacDonald and Paul
(Rhonda) MacDonald. She was predeceased by her parents and brother, James
(Pam) MacDonald. She is also survived by mother- in-law, Christabel Newcombe
and sister-in- law Valerie (Newcombe) and Randall Maze. Joan's career as an
administrative assistant included the Amherst Daily Newspaper in Amherst,
Nova Scotia; the Carleton Separate School Board (Pineview and Saint Matthew
schools) in Ottawa, Ontario; and the Environmental Care Program for
Employees with the QEII Hospital in Halifax. She will be greatly missed by
family and work-related/ social friends developed over the years, both in
Ottawa, Ontario, Amherst/Halifax, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick. Friends
and family are invited to visit at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre,
280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Wednesday, January 2,
2013. A Memorial Mass will be Celebrated on Thursday, January 3 at 10:30 am
at Divine Infant Catholic Church, 6658 Bilberry Drive, Orleans. Joan's ashes
will be laid to rest later in the spring with a private family graveside
service in the RCMP section of Beechwood Cemetery. We would like at this
time to offer our heartfelt thanks to the generosity, sympathy and warmth
provided by the Staffs of the Ottawa Cancer Clinic, 5th and 6th Floors west
at the Ottawa General and the excellent care provided by the Ottawa
Palliative Care Team, included Dr. Louise Coulombe, Dr. William Splinter and
Dr. Megan Doherty. Their collective care and kindness have made this journey
so much more bearable. In lieu of flowers it is requested memorial
contributions be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.
