The 1990 court proceedings say Pearl (White) Devoe and Spurgeon Hoeg are all
related. There's a squabble over running a water line beneath the other's
property to the street water main. However, there's a bit of "genealogy
data" in the document.
I believe they're 1st cousins, once removed. Spurgeon Alfred Hoeg is s/o
Walter Hoeg and Ruth (Boutilier) Sickey; gs/o Jessie Ellet Hoeg and
Elizabeth Ada Cormier. Jessie Ellet Hoeg and Mary Elizabeth "Mamie" (Hoeg)
White are siblings.

ALDER POINT - Hubert Willis Devoe, 71, of Alder Point, died at Harbour View
Hospital, Sydney Mines, on Saturday. Born at Alder Point, he was the son of
the late Fred and Elizabeth (LeBlanc) Devoe. A retired ocean diver, he was
an adherent of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his wife, the
former Pearl White; two daughters, Marilyn, (Mrs. William Day), Alder Point;
Viola (Mrs. Austin Fitzgerald), Baddeck; five sons; Gordon, Wayne, Brent,
and David, all of Alder Point; and Derick, Sydney Mines; six sisters, Mrs.
Elsie Marsh, Mill Creek; Mrs. Mary Colter, Portland, Oregon; Sabina (Mrs.
John MacDonald) Sydney Mines; Della (Mrs. Thomas Gaskell), Bras d'Or; Mary
(Mrs. James Fry), Florence; and Mrs. Margaret Chapman, New Brunswick; six
brothers, Russell and Clarence, Alder Point; Elmer and William, Florence;
Thomas, St Catharines, Ont.; Charles, Toronto; and a number of
grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Reginald; a brother, Ernest; and
a sister Bernetta. Funeral service will be held in the Fillmore and Whitman
Funeral Home, Sydney Mines, Monday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Brookside
cemetery.
