Dewis Walton Rector of Advocate

Rector, Dewis Walton - 87, Oxford, died Monday in Highland View Hospital,
Amherst. Born in Advocate Harbour, Cumberland County, he was a son of the
late Joseph and Hallie (Parsons) Rector. He was a retired school teacher,
having taught in Nova Scotia for 45 years. He taught in Alberta for
two-and-a-half years. He was educated in Advocate and attended Camrose
Normal College, Alberta; Mount Allison University, Sackville, N.B., and
Success Business College, Truro. While receiving his arts degree from Acadia
University, Wolfville, he taught at Hortonville Academy. He was treasurer
and an elder of Trinity United Church, Parrsboro, for 15 years, and a member
of Oxford Area Men's Club. He is survived by his wife, the former Ruth
Field; a daughter, Monica (Mrs. Sterling McLellan), Westchester, Cumberland
County; a son, Dewis (Dewie), Oxford; a brother, Kenneth, Ontario; seven
grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Oscar; a sister Elvie; a
half-sister, Lena; a granddaughter. The body will be in MacDiarmid's Funeral
Home, Oxford, after 2 p.m. Thursday in United Baptist Church, Oxford, Rev.
Blair Holden and Rev. Peter Downey officiating. Spring burial will be in
United Church Cemetery, Parrsboro. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made
to the Betty Rector Memorial Fund or any other charity.
