Obituary

It is with sad hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our loving
mother, Dorothy Grace Goodwin, age 86, of Amherst, N.S. on February 16th,
2015.

Born in Amherst, N.S., she was the only daughter of the late Harold (Spud)
and Eva (Crocker) MacDonald.

After completing her secondary education, Dot went on to earn a diploma from
the St. Charles Commercial program.

She worked for her father, Spud, at his hot dog stand, taxi company, and
Mac's Bakery. She worked at "The Two Barkers" as a seasonal employee; F.W.
Woolworth's, Zellers, and Home Hardware. Dot retired from Home Hardware to
be with her husband, Doug, who had retired from Highland View Regional
Hospital.

Dot was active in the local community as a volunteer for many years.

In 1963, Dot became a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 10. She
served on several committees, particularly enjoying the Poppy Campaign. For
many years she served on the Executive of the Amherst Fire Department
Auxillary. She was an avid supporter of the MD ladder sit. She was a member
of the Mother's Association of the First Baptist Church. Beginning in 1999,
Dot volunteered for the Highland View Regional Hospital Foundation and then
with the CRHCC at the information kiosk.

Many summers were enjoyed at the Wood's Beach cottage with family, extended
family and friends.

On a regular basis, she enjoyed dining out, including her glass of wine ( or
2 ). Her favourite restaurants were; Patterson's Family Restaurant, Duncan's
Pub, and Breakfast at Brittany's.

Dot loved flowers, hummingbirds, cardinals, chickadees, and wildlife. She
had a special love for her three great-grand dogs; Cooper, Nova, and Bandy
as well as her great-grand cat, Pookie, which she spoiled with too many
treats.

Dot is survived by her two daughters, Dawn (Carson) Thompson of Brookdale,
N.S. and Diana (Ken) Matthews of Springhill, N.S.; three grandchildren,
Steven Matthews (Crystal) of Springhill, Belinda (Mitchell) Roy of Amherst,
N.S., Cassie (Dan) Leidl of Ottawa, Ont., her only brother Bill (Winnie)
MacDonald of Amherst, N.S. and sister-in-law Helen O'Brien of Strathcona,

Dot was the only and favourite aunt to many nieces, nephews and their
families, who she loved dearly.
She was also known as "Ma" to many of her "adopted" children and "Gran" to
her younger extended family. She had loving family in the U.S.A. and across
Canada from Springhill, Ottawa and Hamilton, ON to Fort McMurray, AB.

Besides her parents, Dot was predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years,
