April 21, 2005 Halifax Chronicle Herald:
REID, Rae M. - On Wednesday, April 20, 2005, in her 90th year, Rae Mildred Reid, passed peacefully away in Halifax. Born to James and Vivian (Allen) Graham at Fox River, Cumberland Co., on October 6, 1915, she graduated from the Nova Scotia Normal College and taught in Advocate. Married to Lorimer Spicer Reid, she became a lifelong resident of Advocate and raised a family of two daughters and four sons. As well as caring for her family, she operated the West Advocate Post Office for many years, fought diligently to maintain a hospital and a school in the community, and provided a helping hand for many people in the area. Her family - her husband, her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren, her nieces and nephews, and her siblings - all experienced her caring love. Along with lots of common sense, she had the "Graham card sense". In her love of family, she was one of the pillars of the Graham Family Picnic. She is survived by her children, Ellen Taylor (Scott), Halifax; Elizabeth Melvin (Bruce), St. John's, NL; Graham (Kathy), Halifax; Kirk (Beth), Advocate; Charles (Donna), Advocate; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Donkin (Ralph), Fenwick; Jean Thorpe (Bill), Dartmouth; Bob (Chris), Parksville, B.C.; Jack (Naomi), Parrsboro. She was predeceased by husband, Lorimer; son, Layton; granddaughter, Rebecca; grandson, Ben; sisters, Ruth and Eleanor; brothers, Harleigh and Charles. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 23, in Advocate Baptist Church. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Association or a charity of choice.
FYI: Her husband's obituary may have been published in the Nov 20, 1967 Chronicle Herald.
