DONALDSON, John Smart - 85, 445 Adair St., Miramichi, N.B., died September 3, 1998, in Miramichi Regional Hospital. Born in Perth, Scotland, he was a son of the late Alexander and Christina (Ireland) Donaldson. He came to Miramichi in 1966 as vice-president and general manager of Acadia Pulp & Paper. He resigned in 1973 to become vice-president and general manager of Airscrew Weyroc Particle Board Mill on the Miramichi. He was inducted into the Forestry Hall of Fame in 1992. Throughout his years on the Miramichi, he was an active participant on various boards and committees including Newcastle Parks and Recreation, chamber of commerce, MRDC, Miramichi Airport Commission, Newcastle Minor Hockey, Canadian Cancer Society, Miramichi International Air Show, Chatham Hospital and Miramichi Tourism. He was named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International for his contribution to the afore mentioned activities. Surviving are sons, Sandy, Leesburg, Va.; Bruce, Dartmouth; daughters, Kelty, Moncton, N.B.; Mary (Mrs. Perley Tozer), Jane Donaldson-Bowes, Newcastle, N.B.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Betty Van Wart; second wife, Eleanor Graham. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Bell's Funeral Home, Newcastle, N.B. Funeral 2 p.m. Sunday in St. Andrew's Anglican Church. Burial to follow in Miramichi Cemetery.
