OBITUATIES: Wallace A. MacCallum

The death of Wallace Allison MacCallum of Saint John's, Nfld., occurred
there Monday. He was 52.

Born in Amherst, N.S., he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur W.
MacCallum (Clara Strang).

He is survived by his wife, the former Kaye Wagstaff, three sons, William
and John, both of Saint John's and Calvin of Toronto and one grandson; three
brothers, Gordon of Ocean Falls, B.C.; Ivan of Winnipeg, Man., and Arthur of
Moncton.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.

OBITUARIES:Wallace A. MacCallum

The funeral service for Wallace Allison MacCallum was held from Holy Trinity
Church, Fox River on August 30th, 1972. The service was conducted by
Arch-deacon L.F. Hatfield. Interment took place in Grace United Church
cemetery, Port Greville, Nova Scotia.

Mr. MacCallum, youngest son of the late W.A. and Clara (Strang) MacCallum,
was born in Amherst in 1918. He attended school there where he was active in
hockey and played with the local high school and the Amherst Saint Pat's
teams. He graduated from Mount Allison University with a Bachelor of Science
degree (honors) and Engineering certificate. He played on the university
hockey team for three years. Following this he obtained a Bachelor of
Engineering degree from the N.S. Technical College and a Master of Science
degree (Physics) from Dalhousie University.

During the Second World War Mr. MacCallum served as a Lieutenant with the
Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers and continued to be active in
the Reserve Corps.

Most of his professional life was spent in the employment of the Fisheries
Research Board of Canada in Halifax and St. John's, Nfld., where he was
Chief of the Technological Unit from the time of its instigation in 1960
until his death. Mr. MacCallum was the author of many scientific
publications on procedures for handling and refrigeration commercial fish.
His contribution to the industry was recognized nationally and
internationally.

In 1953 he made a complete survey of the Yugoslavia fisheries for the Food
and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. He was an active member
of a commission of the International Institute of Refrigeration as well as
the Engineering Institute of Canada.

Surviving are his wife, the former Kathleen Wagstaff of Port Greville, three
sons, William and Johnstone of St. John's, Nfld., Dr. G. Calvin of Toronto,
one grandson, John, and three brothers, Arthur of Moncton, Gordon of Ocean
Falls, B.C., and Ivan of Winnipeg.

MACCALLUM, KATHLEEN JEAN

MacCALLUM, Kathleen Jean - Died at St. John's, Nfld., on October 28, 1997.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wallace A. MacCallum; parents, George E.
and Adeline (Hatfield) Wagstaff; sister, Barbara F. Hall; brother, G.
William Wagstaff. Leaving her sons, William W. (Zita), Dr. G. Calvin (Judy),
Dr. Johnstone S. (Catherine); grandchildren, Mark, John and Alison,
Caroline, Nicholas, Megan and Johnstone B.; brother, John R. Wagstaff
(Sally-Anne), Saint John, N.B. Cremation has taken place. Visitation at
Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd., St. John's, today from 2-4, 7-9
p.m. Interment will take place at a later date in Port Greville, Cumberland
Co. Donations in her memory may be made to the cemetery fund c/o Grace
United Church, Port Greville, B0M 1T0, or a charity of one's choice.

Her ashes were returned to Port Greville by two of her sons, William Wallace
and Johnston Scott, who interred a portion in the grave site where her
husband was buried in the Port Greville United Church cemetery while the
rest of her ashes were scattered in the outgoing tide of the river below the
family homestead in PG.
