David G. Swan

Died: January 17, 2015

Swan, David Gilroy - 82, Oxford, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family,
Saturday, January 17, 2015 in All Saints Hospital, Springhill. Born in Oxford, he was a son of
the late Perce H. and Evelyn (Gilroy) Swan. Dave was owner and operator of the Davis and Swan
IGA in Oxford for over 45 years. He was a charter and life member of Oxford Area Lions Club, and
was on the building committee of the Lions Recreation Centre. Dave was an honourary member and
served for over 20 years as an active firefighter with Oxford Volunteer Fire Department. He was
past Chairman of the former Oxford School Board and member of the Oxford Pioneer Heritage Club
and former Oxford Curling Club. Dave enjoyed spending time at his camp on the River Philip. He
loved having his family around and kept a keen interest in his grandchildren’s activities. Dave
will be missed by daughters, Lee (Kurt) Fischer, Oxford; Susan Swan (Bob Nagyobb), Halifax; Peg
(Dave) Proctor, Germany; Barb (Wes) Pringle, Oxford; sons, John (Chris); Oxford; Peter (Tracy),
Oxford; sister, Margaret Swan, Truro; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces
and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former A. Leone Trites; daughter, Elizabeth
“Beth” Grams; sister, Nancy Salter. Special thanks to the VON and the staff at All Saints
Hospital for their compassionate care. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21
in MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home, 5075 Main Street, Oxford (902-447-2930). A private family service
will be held at a later time. Donations in Dave’s memory can be made to Pine Grove Cemetery or
