Bessie (GORDON) BROOKINS 1939-2015

I noticed in a posting today from Kathryn Jeffers an in memoriam for Gordon Brookins, and realized that no one has posted to this group the obituary for his mother Bessie (GORDON) Brookins - my mom's cousin - who passed away a few weeks ago. Died: January 2, 2015


Brookins, Bessie M. - 75, Oxford, passed away Friday January 2, 2015 in High Crest Nursing Home, Springhill. Born in Oxford she was a daughter of the late Kenneth and Annie (Stewart) Gordon. Bessie attended school in Oxford and after 2 years graduated from Horton Academy in 1957. Bessie worked for many years, as floral supply manager, alongside her family as owner operators of the former Gordon’s Greenhouse. She was a longtime member of the Laureate Mu Chapter Beta Sigma Phi. Bessie enjoyed old time music and loved playing the accordion and piano. Bessie enjoyed traveling and the winters in Florida in her later years. Bessie loved her cottage and spent her summers there enjoying many friends and family. Bessie is survived by sons, Gordon M. and George Brookins; brothers, Gay and David (Janice); grandchildren, Rachel, Karen, Ryan, Jillian, Lindsey, George, Molly and Sarah; great grandchildren, Mya and Anna; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by son Peter; brothers, Gary and Keith; sister, Edith Reynolds; grandson, Gordon Cloney Brookins. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, January 6 with funeral service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, with Rev. Gary MacDougall officiating, all in MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home, 5075 Main Street, Oxford (902-447-2930). Donations may be made to Pine Grove Cemetery.
