The tradition continues as a 60-foot white spruce from Roslin, donated by Charles THOMPSON, from Oxford, will light up the Prudential Centre Plaza in Boston, Mass.

The Oxford Area Lionettes celebrated their 25th anniversary this year and were presented a plaque by King Lion Grant MACDONALD.

Frances FILLMORE, Oxford Jct., was honored on October 18 for her long and distinguished service to Guiding.

Died - Lily Amy JEFFERS, 84, of Oxford, October 24.
Died - Rhonda Irene MCMANAMAN, 87, of Oxford, October 17.

Mr. I.W. AKERLEY, a native of Pugwash, has been elected to the Nova Scotia Legislature as Minister of Agriculture and Marketing for the Province of Nova Scotia.

Miss Anne MURRAY and Mr. MCALONEY of Springhill gave an address on the Mental Health Association at the October meeting of the Mayflower Chapter IODE.

Joggins Mining Company Ltd. has received a provincial government loan which will enable them to operate again after being shut down since May.

Died - Mrs. Avard THOMPSON, 99, of Oxford, on September 22.

Thursday, October 14, 1954.

The homes of Alfred THOMPSON and Harry CAMERON, Little River Road, were destroyed by fire on October 10.  Only a few weeks earlier the nearby homes of Mrs. Mary WARREN and Ed REID were also destroyed by fire.

Died - Mrs. Millage SHERMAN, 64, of Collingwood Corner, on September 30.
Died - Mrs. John W. KING, 88, Mount Pleasant, on September 29.
Died - Johnson BOWSER, 77, a farmer in West Leicester, on October 8.

POLLARD, Helen Doreen, 80, North Wallace, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2014.  Born in North Wallace, daughter of the late Fred Day and Nellie (Bonnell) Jamieson.  Surviving are daughters, Valerie (Jack) Cook, North Wallace; Eleanor (Ron) Langille, Fox Harbour; Debbie (Ross) MacKay, Truro; Dawn (Jim) Robbins, North River; Brenda (Jim) McKenzie, Trenton, ON; brothers, Gordon (Eileen) Jamieson, Gulf Shore; Frank (Pauline) Jamieson, Roy Jamieson (Marg), all of North Wallace.  Predeceased by her husband, Arthur Pollard; grandson, Andrew Langille; brothers, Lawrence in infancy, Trueman, Earl, Clarence, Gerald and Alex; sister, Kathleen in infancy, Gertrude Peers and Jean Joudrey.  (Obit has photo)

CHURCH, W.W. (Bill), Penticton, British Columbia, passed away October 10, 2014.  Born in 1935, son of the late Wallace and Claire (Trider) Church of Halifax.  Survived by wife Carol (Mitchell); sisters Frances (Walker), Calgary and Marie (Urquhart), Pugwash.  Predeceased by his first wife Vera (Munro), daughter Catherine Ann, brother Lewis and sister Dorothy.
