Re: John Morris and Marie Adams

Title: Re: [nscumber] John Morris and Marie Adams
Hi Sheila:

Thanks for the extras.

Lutheran Morris (1739-1839) was a United Empire Loyalist who came to the Advocate area in the later part of the 1700’s and received a large grant of land in Advocate. Most of, if not all, the Morris’ with roots to southwestern Cumberland County and not related to your “Parrsboro” Morris’ are his descendents.

I’m one of the “Advocate” Lutheran Morris descendents as well as a Capt. John Hatfield descendent. Hatfield was another prominent surname in the area in addition to Morris and numerous others.

There were also a separate unrelated line of Morris’ in the Pugwash area.

That’s why Bob was asking if your Morris’ and my Morris’ were related.

John Morris of Parrsboro came from CO. Wexford, Ireland as  young man in about 1812-15. Marie Adams , his wife came, from Co. Antrim . I don't think there was a Lutheran in the family.

Thanks for the obit from Springhill re William ,   Dave !

Hi Bob:

Thanks. Your info matches what I have.

I don’t believe these Morris’ have any relationship to Lutheran Morris from Advocate but I still follow this linage as several are intermarried into each family. Example; Hugh Ross Morris m/1 Mary Pearl Winter.

Hi Dave,
I was at the St Brigid's Cemetery a few years ago and took some photos which are now posted on   I have John Morris, 1785-1869 and his wife Marie Adams, 1784-1862 as the parents of James Morris, 1828-1875 (wife Ann McLaughlin 1833-1880) and William Ephraim Morris 1828-1897.  The dates are according to their markers.
Do you know if this Morris family living in Parrsboro is related to Lutheran Morris, or are they from Ireland?
