Willem SCHOUTEN of Middleboro is about to open his newest adult living complex in Pugwash, a four-apartment complex on Church St. near the high school.

Wednesday, October 5, 1994.

A single vehicle accident in Wallace early Tuesday morning netted Pugwash RCMP over $9,000 in illegal tobacco.

The Seagull Foundation, established in 1990, has established a nature reserve in its 100 acres of property along the Pugwash River.  It will be used in providing opportunities for educational and wilderness experiences.

Died - Florence Mildred BOWSER, 79, of Port Howe, on October 1.
Died - James Lester ALLEN, 89, born in Port Howe, on September 29.

THIBODEAY, Vernon Francis, 80, Pugwash, passed away September 23, 2014.  Born in Yarmouth.  Surviving are his foster sister, Jean Lewis-Ozerkevick, Nanaimo, BC.  Predeceased by foster parents, William and Pearl Thibodeau; fosters sisters, Kathleen in infancy; Marian Kinney and Vivian Cohoon-Lake.  (Obit has photo)

LAYTON, Ralph Ralston, 95, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2014.  Born in Springhill on February 23, 1919, son of the late Oliver Carroll and Gertrude (Oliver) Layton.  Survived by daughters, Jean MacKay, Summerside, PEI and Mary (Bob) Reynolds, Amherst; son John (Shirley) Layton, Rodney.  Predeceased by his wife Gwendolyn Rose Ripley, daughter of Annie and Willard Ripley, (married September 18, 1942), daughter Gwendolyn in infancy; sisters, Ivy, Helen, Persis, Myrtle and Elizabeth (infancy); and a brother, Donald (infancy).

THOMPSON, Frances Mabel, 96, Wallace Bay, passed away September 24, 2014.  Born in Port Howe on February 21, 1918, daughter of the late Eben and Bertha May (Tucker) Cameron.  Surviving are her son, Jerry (Anne) Thompson, Wallace Bay.  Predeceased by her husband J. EdwardThompson; brothers, Russell and Weldon Cameron; sisters, Kathryn Elliott and Evelyn Cameron.  (Obit has photo)

HAWES, Joseph Henry, 71, Kolbec, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2014.  Born in East Chezzetcook, son of the late Joseph and Mildred (Pettipas) Hawes.  Missed by his wife, Phyllis (Dickie) Hawes; son, William, Conrod Settlement; stepsons, John and Jason Dickie, West Leicester, NS; a stepdaughter, Debbie Field, Port Howe; brother, Raymond (Jenny) Hawes, Heatherton; sisters, Barbara (Harold) Crawford, East Chezzetcook; Greta (Lawson) Smith, Lake Echol; Gloria (Blake) Bayers, East Petpeswick; Marguerite Pettipas, Dartmouth.  Predeceased by Paulette and Shirley Hawes; his son, Andrew and brothers William and Raymond.
