Opal BLACK, a retired nurse and candidate for this October's council election, has been appointed to the new Regional Health Board, Northern Region.

On Saturday, September 24, Davis and Swan IGA and members of the Oxford and Area Minor Baseball Association planted 500 white pine trees around the Oxford ballfield.  The IGA also presented the Association with a $100 cheque.

The recreation center at Tatamagouche is nearing completion and houses dressing rooms, canteen, an auditorium equipped for volleyball, badminton and shuffleboard, stage and skating rink.

The Malagash Grain Ltd. elevator in Bayhead is back in operation under the new management of North Shore Grains, a division of Scotsburn Co-operative Services Ltd.

Died - Mrs. William ANGEVINE, 82, of Wallace, on September 12 at Tatamagouche Hospital.
Died - Robert Sinclair ARCHIBALD, 72, of Ottawa, a native of Oxford, on August 27.

Wednesday, September 16, 1964.

William I. MUNDLE, Pugwash, has been transferred to Moncton where he is branch manager of Canadian Longyear Ltd.

A large IGA transfer trailer was completely demolished when it left the highway on the Little River Road inside the town limits and rolled on its side.  The driver, Ivan STEVENS, escaped serious injury.

Wednesday, September 15, 1954.

Hurricane Edna swept over Nova Scotia, N.B. and P.E.I. Saturday night, leaving a trail of uprooted trees, stripped roofs and demolished buildings.  One-third of the roof of the Oxford Woollen Mills warehouse was torn off, exhibition sheds were damaged, metal roofing was blown off the cobequid Lumber Co. plant, the Anglicha Church at Oxford Jct., Frank Craft's 100-foot-long henhouse at River Philip was wrecked and a house overturned at Windham.  Barns, garages, chimneys and trees were blown down at Westchester.  Hurricane Edna brought a halt to the opening races at the new raceway at North Wallace.Port Philip wharf is undergoing extensive repairs.

Died - At Montreal on September 6, Frank M. SLADE, 77, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Slade, formerly of Oxford.

Wednesday, September 14, 1944.

The 110th anniversary of Westchester Baptist Church was observed on September 10.

The fiercest blaze since the 1917 explosion wiped out the eight acre plant of Piercy Supplies Ltd., Halifax on September 9.

The first sod was turned recently for the $300,000 men's residence at Mt. Allison University, Sackville.

Died - At Oxford on September 12, ex-mayor F.N. COLBORNE, age 48.
Died - At Collingwood on September 2, Mrs. Nettie NIX, wife of Henry Nix.
Died - At Pugwash recently, Mrs. Amelia LANGILLE, 81.
